Registrars’ clinical encounters in training audit

For registrars who were contacted in early May regarding the Registrar clinical encounters in training (ReCEnT) forms, this assessment has been delayed.

Please be assured that we will adapt due dates and allow you sufficient time to complete the activity when we have a confirmed new release date. We’ll be in touch once we know more.

We’re sorry for any inconvenience or stress this delay may have caused you.

Cultural Education workshop

All FSP registrars were invited to attend a Cultural Education workshop in their Australian State in late-May. A total of 172 registrars across all states and territories took part in the first three sessions. These registrars will be invited to a secondary set of webinars to be held in the latter part of the year. Thank you to those who participated.

Exam preparation

Self-assessment progress test

The May self-assessment progress test (SAPT) is now available via gplearning.

SAPTs include applied knowledge test (AKT) questions and key feature problem (KFP) cases taken from previous RACGP exam papers. They’re designed to help you identify learning needs, self-assess progress and clinical reasoning and develop written exam skills. They provide immediate and specific feedback on how you perform in RACGP Fellowship exams.

Once the test is complete, you can access the correct answers, the rationale behind the response, resources for that topic, appropriate curriculum link/s and suggestions for further study. Visit our exam planning webpage for further support and resources.   
 

2024.2 AKT and KFP webinar recording

The national AKT and KFP information webinar recording is now available.

Hosted by Dr Sharnti Caulley - AKT National Assessment Advisor, Dr Emilie Pitter - KFP National Assessment Advisor, and Dr Elise Perger - National Lead Medical Educator Exam Preparation, the webinar covers:  

• the format of the AKT and KFP  
• how to best use the resources available   
• study tips   
• how to prepare for and approach the exam.  

We strongly encourage anyone who intends to sit the AKT and KFP in July to watch this informative webinar. For further exam planning support visit our website. 
 

National Clinical Competency Exam information webinar

The National Clinical Competency Exam (CCE) Information Webinar was held on 27 March. This webinar is a biannual webinar delivered by the National Assessment Advisor for the CCE, Rebecca Lock, and covers the format and approach to the CCE, how to use the resources available and study tips. The recording of this webinar is now available on the CCE support resources webpage.

GP in training applications opening soon

Help us spread the word to encourage the next generation to become a GP – 2025 applications open soon

Australia needs a strong general practice workforce. With your support, we can encourage the next generation to become a GP. If you know someone that would make a great GP or Rural Generalist, encourage them to express their interest today.

Applications for the 2025.1 Fellowship Support Program and 2025 Australian General Practice Training Program second intake open on Monday 22 July 2024.

Primary Health Network activities

We talked about Primary Health Networks (PHNs) in our previous newsletter however we want to remind you that there are events and educational opportunities available near you, through your local PHN. If you’re interested, you can use this interactive map to find your local PHN to find their contact details as well as website.

You can subscribe to their newsletters if you’d like frequent updates on educational events for GPs and other health professionals.

New term commencement

We’d like to remind you that we’re approaching the end of the current term, with a new term to commence on Monday 8 July 2024, running through to 3 January 2025.

Make sure to:

• have your assessments for this term complete and signed off by your medical educator
• book your workplace-based assessment for the first half of next term
• pay your new term invoice by the due date (these were sent on Tuesday 4 June).

Final term requirements

If you’re in your final FSP term we encourage you to start thinking about the following items:

• Have you met your training program requirements?
• Is your RACGP FSP provider number still valid or do you need an extension?
• Applying for a general practice experience assessment
• RACGP exam eligibility, enrolment, and preparation
• If you’d like to suspend your candidacy for a semester (if you have a standard suspension still available).

The Training Programs team has expanded significantly since the start of the 2023.1 intake and although you may already be familiar with certain members of the team, we wanted to let you know who we are.
