TROPHI bringing research to life in your community
Welcome to the first Translating Research Outcomes into the Primary Health Interface (TROPHI) newsletter.
TROPHI is a collaboration between the RACGP, Monash University and the University of Melbourne Departments of General Practice. We want to work with GPs, primary care clinicians, practice teams and the outer Eastern Melbourne community to bring research to life and make a difference to the health and wellbeing of our community.
The TROPHI newsletter will provide opportunities to:
Access grants
Hear about the latest research and evidence, and how it can be used in your practice
Learn about forums and events
Have your say about the needs of the community and how TROPHI can help.
Please feel free to share the newsletter with other healthcare professionals in the region - they can sign up for the TROPHI mailing list to become a part of this important community.
Introducing TROPHI
Translating Research Outcomes into the Primary Health Interface.
The TROPHI network supports the translation of practice-based research in primary care settings. We believe that for a healthier tomorrow, we need to better connect our research evidence to the needs of the community, and support our community to bring this research to life. The project is funded through the Windermere Foundation for the outer Eastern Melbourne region. The TROPHI team is pictured below.

Identifying regional needs - have your say
In August, stakeholders from primary care organisations in the region attended the first TROPHI community forum.
Attendees gave their input on key regional needs that require research and attention. The list of needs generated at the forum can be accessed here. We are currently seeking broader input and welcome you to email feedback to trophi@racgp.org.au. This information will contribute to the TROPHI regional needs analysis and form a backbone to guide our work.
The TROPHI mentoring program is for GPs, general practice staff or primary health professionals. It provides an exciting opportunity to increase knowledge and confidence in the areas of research translation skills, education or academic practice career planning by connecting you with an experienced mentor. Mentorship opportunities can be arranged to fit individual needs.
We’re seeking expressions of interest for the following upcoming TROPHI grants and bursaries:

Available projects will be advertised during the application process.

Partnering with TROPHI—let’s make our research make a difference
TROPHI welcomes partnerships with researchers and those working in universities, hospital health services and academic organisations that share our commitment to improving primary health care and patient outcomes. We want to encourage research and translation to be undertaken within the TROPHI region that is relevant to general practice and aligned with the region’s needs.
TROPHI can support research governance, recruitment, communication and translation of results. We encourage research projects to consider how they can build research skills and capacity for students and healthcare professionals in the TROPHI region.
Opportunities to support research to address local needs
Co-designing a peer coaching program (PiP-P2P) for parents of adolescents with anxiety and/or depression
TROPHI are supporting research by Professor Marie Yap and her team at Monash, which will design a parenting peer-coaching program to support parents of teens with depression and/or anxiety. Results from this project will be shared with the TROPHI community!
Right now, the research team want to make sure this program is useful for parents and teens and are currently recruiting to hear what these groups think. Participants will be invited to participate in one initial interview and/or to provide later feedback on our program design for a maximum of 3 hours total over the course of one year.
