Meet your Registrar Liaison Officers

We’re excited to officially announce and introduce our currently appointed FSP Registrar Liaison Officers (RLOs):

• Dr Heather Barnett
• Dr Khatijah Khalilur Rahman.

The FSP RLO role combines the FSP registrar viewpoint, with the program activities underpinning delivery. It’s a conduit through which your ideas or challenges about the program can be discussed with the College in a mutually beneficial way.

The RLO will not act as an advocate for individual issues. The operations and education teams remain your key contacts for individual matters as you progress through the program.

New guidelines for the safe and ethical use of AI in training

We’ve developed new guidelines to support registrars in navigating artificial intelligence (AI) safely, ethically, and effectively throughout general practice training.

As technologies become more integrated into clinical care and education, registrars must develop digital literacy and judgement to uphold patient safety, professional standards, and academic integrity. These guidelines also acknowledge the varying levels of digital literacy across registrars and supervisors.

National Terms and Conditions for the Employment of Registrars (NTCER)

General Practice Supervision Australia (GPSA) and General Practice Registrars Australia (GPRA) announced the release of the updated National Terms and Conditions for the Employment of Registrars (NTCER) for 2025–2026 in June 2025.

The 2025–2026 NTCER, developed through joint consultation with sector stakeholders, includes indexed base rate increases from 1 July 2025 and the formal inclusion of new schedules providing consistent guidance for registrars on pathways other than the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) program.

Key updates in the 2025–2026 NTCER include:  

• MBS-indexed base rate increases: Following the announcement of a 2.4% Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) indexation, base rates for all AGPT registrars have been updated, effective from the first pay cycle after 1 July 2025.  
• New schedules for non-AGPT training pathways: The NTCER now includes additional Schedules B–F, offering tailored guidance for registrars on alternative GP training pathways, including the Fellowship Support Program (FSP), ACRRM’s Independent Pathway (IP), Rural Generalist Training Scheme (RGTS), Remote Vocational Training Scheme (RVTS), and registrars employed via secondment arrangements such as with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) or under Single Employer Model (SEM) pilots. 

A copy of the NTCER for 2025-2026 is available here. Use of the NTCER is optional for the FSP.

AKT / KFP enrolments now open for 2026.1

Enrolments for the 2026.1 Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) and Key Feature Problem (KFP) exams are now open. Enrolments close Tuesday 30 September.

Key details: 

• check your eligibility and enrol on our website 
• requests for special arrangements must be submitted by 30 September 
• KFP format recently updated to consist of 70 multiple selection questions instead of handwritten responses.

• exam support online (ESO) and exam support program (ESP) modules available now on gplearning 
• exam technique videos available now in the national exam video course on gplearning
• September SAPT available from 8 September – log in to gplearning and select the self-assessment progress tests course 
• practice exams (half-length) available via email six weeks before your exam dates.

Free webinar: Preparing for the RACGP exams

The weeks leading up to exams can be both hectic and stressful, which is why the National Faculty for GPs in Training has teamed up with Avant to share some strategies with you on how to effectively manage your time while studying for exams. You will also learn some helpful tips such as how to manage exam-day nerves. Join us and renowned performance psychologists, Dr Patsy Tremayne and Dr Kell Tremayne, as they guide you through preparing for the RACGP exams: the AKT, KFP, and the Clinical Competency Exam (CCE).

NOTE: This session focuses on the psychology of preparing and studying for exams, not the content of the exams themselves.

Medicare Provider Number

Registrars must keep a record of their Approved Placement expiry dates to maintain continued eligibility for Medicare billing. Please note that Services Australia will not backdate any Medicare Provider Number (MPN) applications received after the placement commencement date.

During peak periods, it can take up to 8 weeks for a provider number to be finalised through both the RACGP and Medicare. To avoid any disruptions, we recommend starting the renewal process at least 12 weeks prior to the current end date of your provider number.

If your provider number is due to expire within the next 3 to 6 months, please complete the RACGP Provider Number application. Keep Q12 and Q27 blank and return the application to ApprovedPlacement@racgp.org.au.
