2026.2 placement process

The 2026.2 placement process has officially opened. Be sure to note the important dates in your calendar and keep an eye out for further updates and next steps.

A list of practices participating in the Bulk Billing Practice Incentive Program (BBPIP) is available in the 'Documents' section of the TMS and via the BBPIP participating practices list.

Enrolments open for 2026.1 Clinical Competency Exam

Enrolments for the 2026.1 CCE are open until 11.59 pm (AEDT), Monday 23 March 2026. 

A CCE information video is now available in the Exam preparation toolkit on gplearning. The video answers common questions about the exam format and provides study tips and preparation strategies. 

Exam technique videos are also available in the toolkit, covering proven approaches to different question types and strategies for time and stress management. 

2026.2 Applied Knowledge Test and Key Feature Problem

Enrolments for the 2026.2 AKT and KFP open at 9.00 am (AEDT), Thursday 26 March and close 11.59 pm (AEST), Thursday 23 April 2026. 

To support your preparation, a new Self-Assessment Progress Test (SAPT) will be available from 9 March via the Exam preparation toolkit on gplearning. SAPTs include exam-standard questions and cases to help you: 

• identify your learning needs 

• assess your clinical reasoning 

• strengthen your written exam skills. 

From 2026, SAPT answers and rationales will be supplied in PDF format. For non‑exam condition attempts, answers and feedback will be downloadable as a PDF with detailed rationales, resources, and curriculum links as you work through the exam.

To access the 2026 SAPTs, you’ll need to self-enrol in the 2026 catalogue via the toolkit – you’ll be prompted to enrol when you open it.  

Previously released SAPTs remain accessible in the toolkit, with the 2023 catalogue available until March 2027.  

We're also developing an AKT/KFP information video featuring Dr Sharnti Caulley (AKT National Assessment Advisor), and Dr Emilie Pitter (KFP National Assessment Advisor), who will answer your questions about exam formats, study tips and preparation strategies. Submit your questions by 8 April via the Exam preparation toolkit. 

The video will be released on 6 May.

2026.1 ReCEnT project

Registrar Clinical Encounters in Training (ReCEnT) is a core educational activity for all 2026.1 registrars in NSW, Vic, ACT, Tas, SA, WA, NW Qld and SE Qld. 

Why it matters 

Information generated by ReCEnT helps you reflect on your practice and identify areas for improvement. It also helps supervisors and medical educators understand your experience. 

The report shows what patient exposure you might be missing, so you can plan future placements, learning opportunities and exam preparation more effectively. 

What you need to do 

Eligible registrars will receive an email from ReCEnT online with instructions on how to complete the encounter forms and the due date.

Note: For NW Qld and WA, only GPT1 and GPT2 registrars complete ReCEnT in 2026.1. For all other regions, GPT1, GPT2 and GPT3 registrars are included. 

Prioritise your own health

It is essential as a GP in training to prioritise your own health. Always remember: you are a person first and a doctor second… your health matters too. 

Take the RACGP wellbeing self-assessment tool to reflect on your personal and professional wellbeing and identify practical self-care actions. The activity can be completed within minutes, is confidential, and will provide you with a personalised wellbeing report.   

It can be helpful to take this wellbeing report along to check-ups with your own GP.  If you don't have a GP, you can be connected with one in your local area by contacting the Doctors Healthline on 1800 006 888. 

Join the GPiT Wellbeing Committee – EOIs now open

The RACGP is now inviting expressions of interest from registrars and supervisors to join the GPiT Wellbeing Committee in 2026. Members play a vital role in shaping initiatives that support the safety, psychological wellbeing, and training experience of GPs in training nationwide. 

While this opportunity is open to all registrars and supervisors, we particularly encourage applications from those who: 

• identify as Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, and/or 

• are located in the NT, SA, ACT, or remote and rural communities. 

Applications close 5 March 2026. Please submit your EOI and resume to GPiT@racgp.org.au.  

GPT1 salary incentive reminder

If you are currently undertaking a GPT1 training term, you may be eligible to receive up to $30,000 as part of the salary incentive program. Payments are made pro rata on a monthly basis in arrears. 

To enable processing, you must complete the Salary Incentive Declaration form that was recently emailed to you by your training coordinator. We cannot process your payment until you submit this form. 

Incentive payments available from 2026.1

Three government incentive payments are available from 2026.1 to support your transition from the hospital sector to GP training. 

GPT1 salary incentive: If you’re undertaking your first six-month core general practice term, you may receive $5000 (FTE) per month.  

In addition to the GPT1 salary incentive, you may be able to access the following payments during training: 

Study leave incentive: Access up to five days (FTE) per training year for exam preparation and professional development, paid at NTCER base rates + 12% super + 10% loading. 

To be eligible, study leave must be arranged with your employer in advance as unpaid leave. Payments are made monthly in arrears and unused leave does not accrue. 

Parental leave incentive: Primary carers can receive up to 20 weeks (FTE). Secondary carers can receive up to two weeks. Payments are based on NTCER rates + 12% super + 10% loading. 

All payments are pro-rated for part-time registrars and are administered by the RACGP on behalf of Services Australia. Registrars are responsible for managing their own taxation and superannuation obligations. 

Your training coordinator can guide you in how to access these incentive payments. Eligibility criteria are available via the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing’s GP Training Incentive Payments webpage and the AGPT Registrar Handbook.

Resources for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients

Joint Colleges Training Services (JCTS) has updated its culturally safe patient information sheets to help GPs and GP registrars connect more effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients and support clearer, more culturally safe care in practice. 

Developed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander GPs, these free, in-clinic resources cover a range of common health conditions and are designed to help remove barriers to understanding and access to care.

Adjusting your working hours

If you're thinking about changing your working hours during your current placement, please speak with your training coordinator as soon as possible. We need 20 days' notice to process any changes, whether you're increasing or decreasing your hours. 

All changes to training hours must be recorded in the TMS, as they may impact your training payments. The earlier you let us know, the smoother the process will be.  

Adverse event reporting

All AGPT registrars, supervisors and training sites are required to report adverse events (including critical incidents) to the RACGP. 

How to report 

Adverse events are reported through the Adverse Event Management portal on the training management system (TMS) homepage. 

Once submitted, training coordinators (and in some cases medical educators) will receive a notification. The report is only visible to relevant RACGP team members who will assist in managing the event's impacts.

Evidence in practice

Telehealth and the GP learning environment: risks, rewards and opportunities 

A recently published study led by the RACGP’s GP Training Research team has explored how the rapid adoption of telehealth reshaped the general practice learning environment.  

Key findings 

• Telehealth disrupted in-consultation supervisory support, often delaying immediate feedback for learning  

• Reduced face-to-face consultations meant less opportunity for hands-on learning  

• There were opportunities to develop communication, history taking and safety-netting skills  

• Limited telehealth training became an opportunity for shared learning between registrars and educators   

Why it matters 

The rapid shift to telehealth impacted the learning experiences of registrars and educational dynamics in training practices. This study explores these changes and highlights why further telehealth training is key to supporting supervision and learning during telehealth consultations.

OPTIMAS-GP implementation trial

Are you or your practice interested in quality improvement for antimicrobial stewardship?
