Welcome to the second Fellowship Support Program (FSP) newsletter for 2026. Read on for all the latest updates, news and insights from the FSP team.

Training program updates

2026.2 term commencing 6 July  

The 2026.2 term in the FSP will begin on Monday 6 July and conclude on 1 January 2027. If you’re welcoming a new registrar as part of the 2026.2 cohort, you’ll receive an email next week with a reminder of key information about the program and your role, including what to expect in the first few weeks. 

Your new registrar will also receive a welcome pack next week. 


Supervisor Q&A sessions ​ 

Each month, we hold a Q&A session hosted by medical educator Dr Rod Omond to support supervisors in their role. These sessions are a great opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback – keep an eye on your inbox for invitations. 


GPE guarantee dates – 2027.1 AKT/KFP​

Registrars must have a valid general practice experience (GPE) assessment outcome to enrol and remain enrolled in the RACGP Fellowship exams.  

If your registrar may be eligible to sit the 2027.1 Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) and Key Feature Problem (KFP) exams and will require a GPE assessment, please remind them that they must submit a complete application by 5.00 pm (AEST) on Friday 19 June 2026. 


Clinical Competency Exam (CCE) 2026.2 ​​

If your registrar may be eligible to enrol in the 2026.2 CEE, please remind them to mark their diary and check their eligibility – enrolments will open on 30 July and close at 5.00 pm (AEST) on 31 August 2026. 


Ensuring supervisor cover when you’re on leave  

If you’re taking planned or unplanned leave, it’s important to ensure your registrar is supported while you’re away or unavailable. When you’re planning leave, please make sure your registrar completes a change in circumstances form in the FSP portal advising of your leave and the details of the alternate supervisor.  

Please note that the alternate supervisor must meet all the criteria for supervisor eligibility. You’ll find more information about eligibility on page 13 of the FSP Training site and supervisor handbook.


Program uplift from 2027.1 

We're making changes to the structure of the FSP from Term 1, 2027 (2027.1). These changes won’t affect current registrars’ education or training.  

The uplift follows extensive consultation throughout 2025 and aims to better prepare future FSP applicants for practice in the Australian healthcare system. It also supports a flourishing GP workforce, enhances education and training, and aligns more closely with the RACGP’s training frameworks.  

If you’re looking to supervise a new registrar from the 2027.1 cohort onwards, we encourage you to familiarise yourself with these changes. Visit the FSP webpage for full details. 

Updated RACGP training policies

New versions of several RACGP training policies took effect on 5 May, superseding previous versions:  

• Training Programs Entry Policy (V7)  
• Withdrawal Policy (V6)  
• Training Transfer Policy (V4)  

These updates include improvements to clarity and consistency, along with some changes that may be relevant to registrars – particularly around training transfers (including transfers to RVTS) and expectations aligned with the Membership Code of Conduct.

Upcoming events

GPADD 2026 early bird registrations now open until 19 July  

Join us on 28–29 August in Melbourne for the 2026 General Practice in Addiction (GPADD) Conference.   

The 2026 GPADD Conference brings together GPs and health professionals for two days of practical, evidence-based learning in alcohol and other drug (AOD) care. You’ll build practical skills and connect with peers across the health sector.  

This year’s theme, ‘The bread and butter of alcohol and other drugs in general practice’, highlights the central role of primary care in addiction management and focuses on practical strategies for everyday consultations.

The 2026 GPADD Conference is a CPD-approved activity of 11 EA, 2.5 RP and 5 MO hours. 

Connect and reflect: South-eastern NSW networking events 

The RACGP is proud to partner with Coordinaire PHN (South Eastern NSW) and ACRRM to bring you a series of relaxed networking events designed to foster connections within the region’s GP community. These events are open to GPs, registrars and supervisors, with junior medical officers and medical students also welcome to attend.

Supporting your registrar’s health  

An important part of your role as a supervisor is to encourage your registrar to prioritise their wellbeing. You can support them by checking in regularly, role modelling self-care and normalising help-seeking.  

One way to do this is by encouraging your registrar to take the RACGP wellbeing self-assessment tool. This confidential activity can be completed within minutes, provides a personalised wellbeing report, and helps registrars reflect on their personal and professional wellbeing while identifying practical self-care actions.  

You can also suggest they bring this report to appointments with their GP.  If they don’t have a GP, the Doctors Healthline (1800 006 888) can help connect them with one in their local area. 


Supporting registrars through exam season ​ 

As exam time approaches, it’s important to remember that registrars are often balancing many demands in their personal and professional lives.    

Taking a moment to check in and see how they’re going can make a real difference during what can be a stressful period.    

Encourage your registrars to access the RACGP Wellbeing Hub, which includes a range of resources and support services. The GP Support Program and Drs4Drs are also valuable supports available during exam time.    

Exams are challenging, but supervisors and practice managers can help registrars feel more connected and supported throughout this demanding period.
