To our practices with new registrars, we hope they are all settled in for 2025.2 and going well. Hopefully progressing as needed through the EASL Direct Observations with constructive feedback being given where applicable, or with registrars continuing on and preparing for upcoming WBAs/exams, you practice managers may be wondering – what’s next?

Well, placements for 2026.1 will be here before you know it, with training capacity updates now open, closing 15 September. Take this opportunity to review your practice profile, put on your marketing hat, and spruce up your outline. Showcase your practice, your services, your people, and of course your community.

Review your contract(s), ensuring these align with the NTCER. Stay up to date with changes so you don’t get caught out – check the latest updates to the NTCER on the GPSA website. Using a GPSA/GPRA template can help, as this will allow them to support you if challenges arise down the track.

The RACGP placement process for 2026.1 is now open

Training sites can update their capacity in the training management system (TMS) until Monday 15 September.

Please ensure your vacancies, practice profile, and contact details are up to date. This information is vital for planning and helps ensure registrars are distributed equitably across your region.

Priority placement support is available, and local training support teams are ready to assist you throughout the process.

New guidelines for the safe and ethical use of AI in training

We’ve developed new guidelines to support registrars in navigating artificial intelligence (AI) safely, ethically, and effectively throughout general practice training. As technologies become more integrated into clinical care and education, registrars must develop digital literacy and judgement to uphold patient safety, professional standards, and academic integrity.

These guidelines also acknowledge the varying levels of digital literacy across registrars and supervisors and aim to provide clear expectations and support for consistent, safe practice.
