Welcoming and exiting registrars

It’s been a very busy time for practice managers during the semester two placement process. As we prepare to welcome registrars to our practice and attend to all the documentation, there are also some loose ends to tie up if you have a registrar leaving your practice.

To ensure continuity of care for our patients and minimise any risk, delegate a doctor to address incoming results and correspondence, and hand over any complex patients before leaving the clinic. Any permits that are in place also need to be managed. The RACGP thanks you all for the tremendous role you all play in the training program.

SPD stipends have been processed

Eligible supervisor professional development (SPD) stipends for 2025.1 have been processed and paid into your nominated account. 

Although stipends are paid to the training site, it’s expected that they will distribute the stipend in full to supervisors proportional to their involvement in SPD.

MPN paperwork reminder

The deadline for Medicare provider number (MPN) paperwork was 2 June. If your registrar has not submitted their paperwork, they will still receive an MPN for 2025.2, however it may not be before the beginning of the semester. 

Registrars cannot begin working in practice until their MPN is received. If you are concerned about the MPN deadline, please reach out to your training coordinator for support. 

RACGP training site and supervisor accreditation standards

In 2025, the RACGP implemented the 4th edition Standards for general practice training. A new guide has been developed – Guide to RACGP training site and supervisor accreditation – which provides general practices and supervisors with comprehensive information about the: 

• processes undertaken for accreditation and reaccreditation  

• requirements and expectations under the new standards.  

All new accreditations and reaccreditations will utilise the information within the guide.  

Training sites and supervisors are required to review the updated expectations and requirements. 

First anniversary – James Cook University transition

It's been almost one year since we welcomed North West Queensland into the College! Together we've delivered nationally consistent, regionally supported and locally delivered general practice training across the entire country.

We're thankful for the continued support of our registrars, supervisors and practice managers who have been involved in the transition. We've learned a lot along the way and know this wouldn't have been possible without the unwavering commitment of our local teams. 

Delivering a national model of training helps support the health and wellbeing of every Australian community. We look forward to another fantastic year working together.
