Program eligibility update

To ensure applicants for the FSP are best placed to achieve Fellowship at the end of their training program, we’re making important updates to the FSP entry requirements.

Changes will be introduced in phases, over two application periods, 2026.1 and 2026.2. You can read more here.

Announcement of consolidation fee

We recently emailed you to let you know of an annual consolidation fee for the FSP.

From July 2025, an annual fee of $300 AUD will apply when you commence your consolidation term. This will be charged once annually, and the first invoice will be issued within the first three months of your consolidation phase and is payable within 14 days.

Medicare Provider Number

Registrars must keep a record of their Approved Placement expiry dates to maintain continued eligibility for Medicare billing. Please note that Services Australia will not backdate any Medicare Provider Number (MPN) applications received after the placement commencement date.

During peak periods, it can take up to 8 weeks for a provider number to be finalised through both the RACGP and Medicare. To avoid any disruptions, we recommend starting the renewal process at least 12 weeks prior to the current end date of your provider number.

Change in circumstance applications

Due to the high volume of change in circumstance requests being received, please allow 6 to 8 weeks from the date of submission for review and for an outcome to be communicated.

If additional information is required or if you have submitted an accompanying Extenuating and Unforeseen Circumstance application, please allow extra time for processing.

For those applying for a new or additional training site, ensure your proposed start date accommodates the CIC review as well as the application for a new provider number.

We recommend allowing at least 12 weeks for the entire process; however, please note that a guaranteed start date at the new location cannot be provided.

GPE assessment due date for 2026.1 AKT/KFP exams

If you’re intending to enrol in the 2026.1 AKT & KFP exams, you’ll need to submit a complete* general practice experience (GPE) application no later than 5:00pm (AEST) Friday 20 June 2025 to ensure you have an outcome by the time that enrolments open. A GPE assessment can take up to 10 weeks to process.

And just a gentle reminder; you can’t sit exams until you’ve completed the educational phase of the FSP.

AKT/KFP exam preparation video

The 2025.2 AKT and KFP information video is now available via gplearning. The video covers:

• the format of the AKT and KFP
• how to best use the resources available
• study tips
• how to prepare for and approach the exam.

May self-assessment progress test

The May Self-Assessment Progress Test (SAPT) is now available to support your exam preparation.

To access the SAPT, log in to gplearning and select the Self-Assessment Progress Tests (SAPTs) course. A video showing where to find SAPTs on gplearning can be found here.

SAPTs include example AKT and KFP questions to help you identify learning needs, self-assess clinical reasoning and develop written exam skills. This SAPT reflects the updated KFP format, as from 2025.2 handwritten responses will be removed from the exam.

Once the test is complete, you can access the answers and rationale, as well as resources for that topic, curriculum links and suggestions for further study. Please ensure you’re logged in to Therapeutic Guidelines to access the eTG resources. For candidates sitting their exams in July, we strongly recommend completing SAPTs under exam conditions to build familiarity with timing.
