The GP Training Research team have recently completed an Education Research Grant project titled Australian GP registrars as teachers: A qualitative study. This project interviewed GP registrars, supervisors, medical educators, and medical students about their experience with registrars in teaching roles.
The findings suggest that registrar teaching is a valuable skill with transferability to clinical work and patient care, however, more support is needed to facilitate registrars as teachers on a larger scale. These findings may be of interest to supervisors and can be considered when supporting registrars during their training.
If you'd like to discuss these finding further, please contact Dr Kate Fisher at katie.fisher@newcastle.edu.au
