Your AGPT Program update – 5 February 2025

RLO message

As we step into 2025, we welcome you to another exciting year of learning, growth and opportunity in the AGPT Program. This year is particularly significant, with a record number of GP trainees in Australia—a 20% increase from 2024. 

As registrar liaison officers (RLOs), we’re here to advocate and support you. Our role is to provide a safe and effective channel for you to share your feedback, represent you positively to stakeholders and work with the RACGP to address any issue you may have during training. 

Throughout the year, we’ll connect regularly to ensure your voice is heard.

Remember, you’re never alone on this journey. You have a robust support network, including supervisors, peers, RACGP staff and, of course, your RLOs. We’re here to ensure your training experience is as enriching and rewarding as possible.

2024.2 placement claims

Did you complete a 2024.2 placement in an incentivised location? Please submit your claims for reimbursement as soon as possible. Claims for 2024.2 will only be processed if submitted within four weeks of the end of semester. Claim forms can be accessed via the TMS.

2025.1 ReCEnT project

Registrar Clinical Encounters in Training (ReCEnT) is a core 2025.1 educational activity for all registrars in NSW, Vic, ACT, Tas, SA and SEQ.  

Information generated by ReCEnT facilitates reflection on your practice and areas you may consider change or improvement in, and helps supervisors and medical educators understand your experience. The report also helps you identify what patient exposure you might be missing, helping you make informed decisions about future placements, learning opportunities and targeting your preparation for exams.  
 
Eligible registrars will receive an email from ReCEnT online with instructions on how to complete the encounter forms and the due date. For further information on the ReCEnT project please visit our website.    

Adverse event reporting

All AGPT registrars, supervisors and training sites are required to report adverse events (including critical incidents) to the RACGP. Reporting of adverse events will now be completed through the Adverse Event Management portal on the training management system (TMS) homepage, rather than using the PDF form. 

The portal has the same fields as the existing form, streamlining processes by allowing the relevant documents to be uploaded during submission. Training coordinators, and in some cases medical educators, will receive a notification once a report is submitted. 

The report sits in a separate portal and is only visible to the relevant RACGP team members who will assist in managing the event’s impacts. Please refer to the reporting adverse events via the TMS guidance document for further information.

NCP changes

The Department of Health (DoH) has updated the National Consistent Payments (NCP) Framework. From 2025.2, NCP will be pro-rata based on the registrar's training time in a particular Modified Monash Model (MMM) location. 

Registrars will still receive their pro-rata NCP at the beginning of each semester and the payment rates per MMM will remain the same.

2025.2 placement process

The 2025.2 placement process will open in March. Mark these key dates in your calendar, and stay tuned for further information ahead of placements opening. 

Exam planning

CCE question submission

To support registrars preparing for the Clinical Competency Exam (CCE), Dr Rebecca Lock, the CCE National Assessment Advisor, is releasing an information video to talk through the exam format, study tips and support resources. 

If you have any questions about the CCE you’d like Dr Rebecca to answer, please submit them via the National exam information videos gplearning course.  All questions must be submitted by Sunday 9 February. For further exam planning support please visit our website. 

Wellbeing Committee EOI

The GP in Training (GPiT) Wellbeing Committee is seeking to appoint up to three new members in 2025. The Committee plays a crucial role in supporting the ongoing professional growth of GPs and ensuring a positive and supportive training experience.

Academic Post Program

Would you like to teach Australia's future GPs? If you’d like to explore an academic career as part of your GP training journey talk to your training coordinator about the Academic Post Program. 

During an academic post, registrars partner with a university to teach medical students and complete a research project in an area of general practice, while receiving mentoring and support from medical educators, university supervisors and the RACGP. The program is a unique opportunity to make lasting connections with leading academic institutions and build the foundation for a career in academia or medical education.   

Applications for the 2026 intake open on 5 May 2025.

RLO transition

Registrar liaison officers (RLOs) are transitioning to operate under the National Faculty for GPs in Training, rather than in regional teams. 

This change will help establish a nationally consistent RLO program and ensure you have a direct voice to the GPiT Faculty Council.

Please continue to contact your RLO as usual during the transition. We also encourage you to join the GPiT Facebook group to stay up to date with RLO news. If you have any questions, please get in touch with your training coordinator. 

2025.1 education calendars

A reminder that the 2025.1 out-of-practice-education calendars are available on our website. The calendars outline activity requirements for the upcoming semester, specific to your stage of training.  
 
Each region will contain the same information however the dates of events will vary according to local planning. Your local team will send you specific information for your training stage and region.   

Please note the AGPT Program update newsletters are moving to a monthly format in 2025 (rather than fortnightly).
