Preparing for placements 2025.2 
Registrar placements occur twice yearly and can be a challenging time. We recommend you take the time to review registrar resumes/cover letters and organise an interview to ensure the registrar is the right fit for your practice. Registrars may be keen to take the first offer they receive, but focusing on quality training and supervision should be the priority. 

To assist with registrar contracts and employment conditions, General Practice Supervision Australia is your one-stop shop for templates and a copy of the National Terms and Conditions for the Employment of Registrars (NTCER). 

Workplace-based assessments reminder 
A friendly reminder to ensure registrar mid-term assessment reports, including workplace-based assessments, have been attended to. Due dates can be found by logging into the training management system. 

If you have concerns, please speak with your training coordinator in the first instance.

2025.2 placement applications are open

Placement applications for 2025.2 are open and training sites can now make offers to registrars. You can offer up to the number of positions your training site has available, and can stop receiving applications at any time. 

A reminder that you need to accept the registrar placement in the training management system to generate the Medicare provider number (MPN) paperwork. The MPN deadline for 2025.2 is 2 June.

Registrar leave and handbook updates

To help support registrar wellbeing and exam preparation, the RACGP will recognise a total of three days of study leave (pro-rata) per exam semester as ‘training time’. 

To be eligible, registrars must sit at least one exam in that semester.   

Study leave isn’t an entitlement under the National Terms and Conditions for the Employment of Registrars (NTCER). However, if the registrar has negotiated paid or unpaid study leave with their employer as a non-standard term in their employment contract, this leave will still contribute to their training time. For more information, please see our newly updated AGPT Registrar handbook and frequently asked questions.   

Changes to practice circumstances

A reminder to please reach out to your training coordinator (TC) if there have been changes to your practices':     

• name    

• address     

• ABN or ACN     

• bank account details     

• site ID     

• supervisors.    

These changes can affect your registrar's Medicare provider number (MPN), so they need to be shared with your TC as soon as possible.    

Please note, all changes of ownership must also be shared with your TC as it may impact training site accreditation and will need to be assessed.
