As Winston Churchill once said, “This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” 

Two years ago, we stood on the cusp of significant change as GP training returned to the Colleges. Thanks to the collective efforts of many, including our dedicated supervisors, this transition has been successfully navigated. 

Today, we are excited to see GP training places on the brink of being fully subscribed for the first time in years. This progress reflects the positive outcomes of bringing GP training back into the College. After navigating the initial challenges that come with a transition of this scale, we can now look forward with greater clarity and purpose, building a stronger future for GP training. 

What we do know is that supervisors like you play a vital role in mentoring the next generation of GPs. Together, we’re shaping a brighter future for general practice.

Adverse event reporting

All AGPT registrars, supervisors and training sites are required to report adverse events (including critical incidents) to the RACGP. Reporting of adverse events will now be completed through the Adverse Event Management portal on the training management system (TMS) homepage, rather than using the PDF form. 

The portal has the same fields as the existing form, streamlining processes by allowing the relevant documents to be uploaded during submission. Training coordinators, and in some cases medical educators, will receive a notification once a report is submitted. 

The report sits in a separate portal and is only visible to the relevant RACGP team members who will assist in managing the event’s impacts. Please refer to the Reporting adverse events via the TMS guidance document for further information.

NCP changes

The Department of Health (DoH) has updated the National Consistent Payments (NCP) Framework. From 2025.2, NCP will be pro-rata based on the registrar's training time in a particular Modified Monash Model (MMM) location.

Registrars will still receive their pro-rata NCP at the beginning of each semester and the payment rates per MMM will remain the same.

2025.2 placement process

The 2025.2 placement process will open in March. Mark these key dates in your calendar, and stay tuned for further information ahead of placements opening. 

Updated AGPT handbooks

The practice and supervisor handbook and registrar training handbook have been updated to reflect the training requirements for 2025. Please refer to the update notices for further details on the changes.

2025.1 ReCEnT project

Discussing your registrar’s ReCEnT report is one of the most important steps to help registrars reflect on their practice, inform their learning plan and identify any areas of practice where they may consider change or improvement. You can use one of your scheduled teaching sessions to take your registrar through the report. 

If your registrar is required to complete ReCEnT in 2025.1 they will receive an email from ReCEnT online, including instructions to complete their encounter forms and the due date. 

All registrars in NSW, Vic, ACT, Tas, SA and SEQ are participating this semester. Please see the key dates below. ​For further information on the ReCEnT project and how to utilise the registrar report, please visit our website.  

Registrar exam planning

The 2025 Fellowship exam dates and enrolment periods are available on our website. We encourage you to discuss exam planning with your registrars, keeping in mind that requests for late enrolment will no longer be accepted outside the enrolment period. Special arrangement applications are also required by the close of enrolments.

Wellbeing Committee EOI

The GP in Training (GPiT) Wellbeing Committee is seeking to appoint up to three new members in 2025. The Committee plays a crucial role in supporting the ongoing professional growth of GPs and ensuring a positive and supportive training experience.

2025.1 education calendars

A reminder that the 2025.1 out-of-practice education calendars are available via the RACGP website. Each region will contain the same information however the dates of events will vary according to the local planning. Your local training team will send you specific information for your registrar.   

Please note the AGPT Program update newsletters are moving to a monthly format in 2025 (rather than fortnightly).
