Message from the GPiT Faculty

This is a quick reminder that enrolments for the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) and Key Feature Problem (KFP) exams open on 4 April and close on 1 May.  

To help you get started with exam preparations, I recommend visiting our exam planning webpage. 

When preparing for exams, please also be aware that the KFP format has been updated to remove handwritten responses. To help you prepare, the first Self-Assessment Progress Testing (SAPT) with the updated KFP format is available gplearning. Additionally, a half-length practice exam will be emailed to enrolled candidates approximately six weeks before the exam.  

I wish you all the best as you prepare for this important step in your training. Keep moving forward and remember that you are not alone in this journey.

Placement applications open 28 April

A reminder that 2025.2 placement applications are opening on Monday 28 April. From this date, you can commence applying to training sites in your allocated group via the training management system. 

Training sites can commence interviews from this date but cannot make offers until Monday 5 May. Please reach out to your training coordinator if you have any questions about the application process. 

Incentivised or remote supervision placements

RACGP's placement incentives provide additional funding to registrars training in areas of workforce need. You'll benefit from the breadth of clinical experience available in areas with unique healthcare needs, and receive funding to help with relocation and living costs. Discover incentivised locations and the funding available here. 

GPT2+ registrars can also apply for remote supervision placements, demonstrating flexibility, curiosity and a sense of adventure to prospective future employers. Whether it's training on Norfolk Island in Queensland or the Ngaanyatjarra lands in Western Australia, you can make a difference in communities that need general practice support. 

Submit your claims via the TMS

From Monday 24 March, eligible registrars will submit incentivised placement claims and travel to mandatory workshop travel claims via the training management system (TMS).   

This will streamline the process of claiming and tracking eligible expenses as per the Placement Incentive Guidelines and the AGPT Registrar Travel to Mandatory Out of Practice Education Workshops Guide.   

Please ensure you enter your bank details in TMS under My Details. Please contact your training coordinator if you have any questions.   

New clinical resources

The full suite of the Australian Medicines Handbook (AMH) resources is now available to all AGPT registrars to guide your learning.    

 You now have access to:   

• AMH Online
• AMH Aged-care Companion
• ​AMH Children’s Dosing Companion  

You can access these resources in Quick Links and Subscriptions using your regular training management system login. You don’t need a separate login or password, it’s a one-stop shop! 

Academic Post Program pre-application webinar

Applications for a fully funded academic post in 2026 are open from 5 May to 21 July 2025. If you’re thinking about applying, register for the pre-application webinar to learn about the application process and selection criteria.

During the program, you’ll teach the next generation of GPs, contribute to the evidence that improves patient care and make lasting connections with leading academic institutions. Don’t miss out on exploring general practice research in a supportive environment.  

Exam preparation with gplearning

Preparation resources for the 2025.2 AKT and KFP exams are available on gplearning: 

• Exam Support Online (ESO) modules explain the AKT and KFP exam formats and walk you through example questions. 

• Exam Support Program (ESP) modules explain exam techniques, study tips and help you develop a learning plan. 

• Self-Assessment Progress Tests (SAPTs) include practice exam questions, answers with rationales and suggested resources for further study.

GPiT Registrar Wellbeing Project

Balancing training with studying for exams can be stressful. If you're feeling overwhelmed, reach out to your medical educator or training coordinator for support. They’re here to help!   

We offer the GP Support Program to all members, including free counselling services. This valuable resource is designed to help manage stress and maintain your wellbeing during this busy time. Remember, you’re not alone. Take care of yourself and prioritise your mental health.  

Strengthening the general practice workforce

Under the Australian Government's Strengthening Medicare package, $30,000 in salary incentive payments will be available to new GP trainees on a Commonwealth-funded GP training program when they transition into community general practice. Registrars will also have access to payments covering five days of study leave per year, and up to 20 weeks of paid parental leave. All payments will be made on a pro rata basis.
