In this issue of Australian Journal of General Practice, we consider the important matter of eye conditions in general practice. Of course, eyes are so vital to our patients, in so many ways, and loss of vision and deteriorating vision can be devastating. These challenges range from acute ocular injury and vision loss through to the gradual decline associated with ageing. This issue considers the key topic of visual standards and fitness to drive,1 as well as key medical conditions including glaucoma,2 thyroid disease3 and macular degeneration.4 As always, we are most grateful to all our contributors – authors and reviewers – who made this Focus issue possible.
