Members have their say in engagement survey

High levels of trust and connection in the RACGP, and even higher levels of satisfaction with the college’s CPD offerings, are among key findings in the RACGP’s 2025 Member Engagement Survey.
 
Known until 2022 as the Member Census, the annual Member Engagement Survey reflects how effectively the RACGP is supporting, representing, and connecting to its members.
 
It provides valuable insight into member expectations of the RACGP, and how they feel these expectations are being met. These insights are used to shape the activities and direction of the RACGP. 
 
Among key findings in the 2025 survey, released this week, are:

• 70% of members say the RACGP is an organisation they trust
• 70% recommend RACGP membership
• 65% feel connected to the RACGP
• 75% rate the RACGP’s role as a strong advocate for GPs as ‘absolutely essential’
• almost 90% say the RACGP is meeting or exceeding their expectations with its CPD content, platform, and support.

Over the past five years the number of members who are satisfied or very satisfied with the college has grown year on year, as has the number of members who say the RACGP meets or exceeds their expectations, and members who would recommend membership to a colleague.
 
However, members were also forthcoming in where they want to see improvements. New Fellows said they would like more targeted support from the college, in particular in relation to workload, fatigue, and navigating regulatory and administrative demands.
 
Many members also said they want to better understand what the RACGP is advocating for, how positions are formed, and how their insights help shape that work.
 
The RACGP 2026–30 Advocacy Plan reflects priorities members have previously called for through the college’s annual Health of the Nation report, past member surveys, faculty councils, expert and advisory committees, and direct member submissions.
 
RACGP President Dr Michael Wright told newsGP the Engagement Survey results show CPD remains ‘core to many GPs’, but also that the college’s advocacy work ‘remains important for many of us’.
 
But he said the results also show ‘there is more work to do’.
 
‘Although members are seeing the value of their membership, that’s not universal,’ he said.
 
‘That’s why surveys like this are important; to understand and get a sense check about how the college is doing in the way that we try to represent our membership on so many issues and in so many places around Australia.’
 
The 2026 Member Engagement Survey will open later this year.
