Members are invited to have their say on several key matters at the upcoming RACGP Annual General Meeting (AGM), with voting now open.
The college’s 68th AGM will be held on 13 November 2025 at the GP25 conference in Brisbane, on Turrbal and Jagera Country, as well as via a Zoom webinar for those who are unable to attend in person.
To continue leading general practice and supporting members, the Board is proposing changes to the constitution to streamline processes and strengthen its governance.
These are presented as eight Special Resolutions, in addition to two Ordinary Resolutions for director fees and President fee increases.
Under Ordinary Resolutions being considered is the recommendation that directors’ remuneration for the 2027 financial year increase by 3%, meaning an additional $66,488 increase to the total pool of funds available for 15 directors’ fees per annum.
There is also a motion to apply a 3% increase to the college President’s remuneration.
Both require 50% of voters to be in favour to pass.
The eight Special Resolutions related to proposed constitution changes, which require 75% of the total votes cast to pass, include:
- director terms increasing from two to three years, with a maximum of two terms, or six years
- the Censor-in-Chief no longer being a Board director
- directors not being RACGP employees
- minimum governance experience being required for directors
- the President-elect becoming a director from the date their President terms starts
- the Chair being able to call a Board meeting.
The
Future Governance Committee held 18 member consultation sessions to obtain direct feedback on the proposed changes from August to October 2025 – member feedback from these consultation sessions shaped the changes and refined the proposed resolutions.
These proposed changes have been detailed in a series of videos, including an interview with
RACGP GPs in Training Chair Dr Rebecca Loveridge, who discusses the differences between the Faculty Chair and directors roles and fees, and the election process.
While Censor-in-Chief
Dr Tess van Duuren speaks about her role and its proposed constitution changes.
RACGP Board Chair Dr Siân Goodson is encouraging all members to have their say.
‘Member feedback is essential in shaping the future direction of the RACGP as well as informing how the college operates,’ she told
newsGP.
‘I encourage all members to vote, and make their voices heard.’
Dr Goodson said the Board had 700 members provide feedback during its consultation sessions on the constitution changes and had some ‘great discussions’.
‘As a result of your feedback, we clarified that we would support less-experienced members elected to become directors in obtaining minimum governance experience in their first six months,’ she said.
‘We also reduced the maximum director term cap from nine years to six years.
‘The Board’s view is these changes will help to strengthen the continuity and governance of our Board in its stewardship of the college operating in an increasingly complex environment.’
Members are encouraged to continue submitting their questions ahead of the AGM through the website or by email to
generalmeetings@racgp.org.au.
The college is responding to questions as they come through via the live
