The RACGP has celebrated GPs, registrars, supervisors, researchers, students, practices and honorary members leading the way in providing outstanding care and innovative solutions in general practice.
At the weekend’s GP25 conference in Brisbane, on Turrbal and Jagera Country, 19 awards were presented to recipients from across Australia and the Asia Pacific, welcomed by the RACGP Board, college members and proud friends and family.
College President Dr Michael Wright said the annual awards are an opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding and ‘often unheralded’ work that happens in general practice.
‘The awards are about celebrating GPs and practice teams going that extra mile for their patients,’ he said.
‘This is why GPs and practice teams are held in such high regard by their communities.
‘We’re there when patients from all walks of life need us, and this year’s award winners have done some amazing and outstanding work.’

Presenting the Rural awards was Chair Associate Professor Michael Clements, who said the recipients symbolise why GPs are highly valued in rural and remote communities across the country.
‘[Their] dedication highlights commitment to improving rural health,’ he said.
‘And developing the skills needed to meet the evolving needs of [their] community.’
The RACGP’s highest accolade, the Rose-Hunt award, was presented this year to Western Australian GP, RACGP WA Provost and Past RACGP President, Adjunct Associate Professor Frank R Jones.
Dr Wright praised Professor Jones for his ‘immense contributions to general practice at the highest levels’ over his almost 45-year career.
This career has included working with the Royal Flying Doctor Service as a GP obstetrician, and many years working at the Murray Medical Centre in Mandurah in Western Australia.
‘He has held positions of authority and leadership within the college and worked tirelessly in the education and training of medical students, and peers, over a long and dedicated career,’ Dr Wright said.
When accepting his award, Professor Jones acknowledged the support from the RACGP.
‘College advocacy is growing in strength,’ he said.
‘Year by year, I am proud to be a Fellow of our college, but most of all, I’m proud and privileged to be a GP.’
