Queensland’s RACGP Awards have spotlighted GPs, practices, and teams working to make a ‘profound difference’ to their communities.

The RACGP Queensland Awards.
Four awards were handed down at the RACGP Queensland Awards ceremony this month.

GPs and practices across Queensland have been celebrated for their dedication to patients and the profession at the state’s 2026 RACGP Awards.

Four awards were handed down at this month’s ceremony, recognising the ‘profound difference’ the winners have made within their communities:

  • GP of the Year: Dr Andrew Spall
  • General Practice of the Year: Hawthorne Clinic
  • General Practice Supervisor of the Year: Dr Annie George
  • GP in Training of the Year: Dr Charlotte Lovejoy
RACGP Queensland Chair Dr Cathryn Hester said the award recipients exemplified the ‘very best of Australian general practice’.

‘These award winners demonstrate the compassion, leadership and commitment that make general practice the cornerstone of our healthcare system,’ she said.

‘Whether caring for patients, mentoring future GPs, supporting rural and regional communities, or delivering innovative models of care, each of these recipients is making a significant difference to the lives of Queenslanders.

‘On behalf of the RACGP, I congratulate all award winners and thank them for their outstanding service to patients, communities, and the profession.’

GP of the Year
Dr Spall is a practice owner and supervisor, he has mentored several registrars and undertaken external clinical teaching visits across Queensland, including in remote and underserved areas.

He was recognised for his service to the Tewantin community and commitment to training the next generation of GPs, with the awards panel praising Dr Spall’s ‘willingness to go above and beyond to support registrars, including taking on additional trainees requiring extra assistance’.

General Practice of the Year
Brisbane’s Hawthorne Clinic was recognised for its ‘exceptional commitment’ to patient care, community engagement, prevention programs and medical education.

Last year, the clinic celebrated its 100th year in the same location and has built a reputation for its strong focus on family-centred care, chronic disease management, preventive health and training future GPs.

General Practice Supervisor of the Year
Dr George was celebrated for her ‘unwavering dedication’ to GP training and mentorship, with the awards panellists saying she regularly contributes teaching time beyond formal requirements – both professionally and pastorally.

She was described as an ‘exceptional role model’ who consistently creates a supportive learning environment for future GPs.

GP in Training of the Year
Based in Kingaroy, around 200 kilometres north-west of Brisbane, Rural Generalist Dr Lovejoy was recognised for her commitment to rural and regional healthcare and for providing continuity of care while contributing to acute care services in the community.

Her leadership skills were also celebrated after she shared her experiences as a rural registrar at the RACGP’s GP25 conference, as well as pursuing additional rural skills training in aged care.
