In Practice: Callout for Standards expert committee members
The college is inviting member nominations for a vacancy on the RACGP Expert Committee – Standards for General Practices.
The RACGP encourages members with a passion for quality improvement in general practice to join its Expert Committee.
This week’s In Practice also includes a reminder for practices to review policies for the upcoming Privacy Awareness Week, last chance to register for the Practice Owners Conference at reduced rates, and applications for the 2026 RACGP Mentoring Program closing in a month.
EOIs: RACGP Expert Committee Standards for General Practices
Member nominations are open for a vacancy on the RACGP Expert Committee – Standards for General Practices (REC–SGP).
This is an opportunity to contribute to the development and ongoing evolution of the Standards for general practices, a cornerstone of quality and safety in Australian general practice.
The REC–SGP plays a key role in:
- developing and maintaining the Standards for general practices and associated resources
- ensuring the Standards reflect contemporary, high-quality general practice and remain independent of government policy
- monitoring national and international developments in standards and accreditation
- supporting consistent interpretation of the Standards with accrediting agencies
- strengthening communication and engagement on standards across the profession and broader community.

Privacy Awareness Week: Review privacy practices and policies
An initiative of the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner, the annual
Privacy Awareness Week aims to increase understanding of the importance of protecting personal information.
Running from 4–10 May, this year’s theme ‘Trust is built here. In every privacy complaint. In every resolution’, focuses on how privacy obligations are put into practice – particularly when handling privacy complaints and disputes.
A long-time supporter of the initiative, the RACGP reminds members it is an opportune time to review privacy practices and policies.
The college has
a suite of resources to support understanding and adhering to privacy obligations required by the
Privacy Act 1988 and the 13
Australian Privacy Principles, as well as resources supporting
information and cyber security in general practice. The
Cyber security in general practice resource includes information on
notifiable data breaches.
Practice Owners Conference: Early bird closing
Early bird registration for the RACGP’s 2026 Practice Owners Conference closes Monday 4 May, 11.00 pm (AEST).
Taking place across 23–24 May at the International Convention Centre Sydney, Gadigal Country, with optional pre-conference workshops on 22 May, this year’s theme ‘Stronger in practice’ will provide practical insights and skills to strengthen how practices run.
Register now for the last chance to do so at a reduced rate and start planning the conference experience.
RACGP Mentoring Program: Applications open
Applications for the
2026 RACGP Mentoring Program are open until 31 May. This program is for GPs looking to guide others or learn from peers while strengthening their career, confidence and professional connections.

Strengths-based assessment for children experiencing attention and behaviour challenges

Emerging Minds and RACGP Specific Interests, this webinar is the second in the series and will discuss how children’s mental health is defined by more than emotions and behaviour – core health factors like sleep and nutrition play an integral role.
The panel will explore how these foundations influence development and mental health and why addressing them in relation to attention and behaviour concerns matters. The webinar will also unpack practical approaches to assessment and formulation, focusing on the whole child and ways to embed families’ strengths into these processes.
This session offers strategies to move beyond symptom-based assessments and support children and families in a holistic way.
