In Practice: Medicare compliance essentials
An upcoming RACGP webinar will cover key principles of Medicare for new providers, including MBS rules and requirements.
The RACGP is hosting a webinar to provide an overview of Medicare compliance, designed primarily for GPs in training and providers new to the system.
This week’s In Practice also includes details on an event providing an overview of the incoming assignment of benefit changes.

This webinar will provide an overview of the key principles of Medicare, how the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing supports the sustainability of the system, and the legislative obligations of providers. It will draw on key concepts from the Provider Handbook, and compliance strategy and priorities.
While the session is designed primarily for GPs in training and providers new to the system, all are welcome to attend, including practice managers.
Assignment of benefit update

From 1 July, a new assignment of benefit process will commence for Medicare bulk-billed services. This webinar aims to help GPs understand the changes and what practices need to do to prepare.
LGBTQIA+ specific populations resource
The General Practice Mental Health Standards Collaboration (GPMHSC) has recently developed a new suite of resources to assist GPs in providing inclusive, trauma-informed and culturally safe care to patients from diverse backgrounds.
The LGBTQIA+ resource offers advice on providing trauma-informed and culturally safe care to this patient population, including practical tips to build trust, how to ask sensitive questions respectfully, and recognising when to proceed with caution.
The resource also features tailored information around the unique challenges LGBTQIA+ patients face, such as gender identity and sexual identity, intersectionality, body image concerns and eating disorders, specific administrative processes and more.

Peer group learning: Supporting patients in domestic violence situations

CEO of Engender Equality, Alina Thomas, will outline the primary care family and sexual violence pilot program which her organisation delivers. She will take you on a victim-survivor’s journey, discuss the importance of effective documentation and framework, and cover the ways GPs and other practice staff can seek support after a consultation with a victim-survivor.

RACGP Tasmania is facilitating cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) courses delivered by Penny Royal College, in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, in Hobart (sold out), Launceston, and Burnie. This is an opportunity for GPs who are keen to get in front of their CPR requirement for the new CPD triennium. Registrations close Tuesday 7 July, 11.45 pm.
