The RACGP’s 2026–29 Advocacy Plan demonstrates a commitment to member-led advocacy by ensuring the plan is built by, and for members.

This week’s In Practice also includes a reminder to nominate peers and colleagues for the RACGP Awards, applications for the 2025 Mentoring Program, and an upcoming CPD session on pain management.

RACGP 2026–29 Advocacy Plan: Member submissions open
The RACGP’s first Advocacy Plan led to some big wins for general practice, including an $8.5 billion boost to Medicare and the GP workforce in the Federal Government’s latest budget.

The college is building off this momentum to develop its 2026–29 RACGP Advocacy Plan, which will be aligned with the 2025–29 RACGP Strategy to better deliver on both plans’ objectives.

Members are invited to provide feedback to help shape the new plan and advocate for changes most important to them. Submissions are open until 20 June, and combined feedback will then be discussed and considered by faculty councils, RACGP Expert Committees, and other groups within the college. Submit feedback online

Nominate a colleague for the 2025 RACGP Awards
The RACGP Awards recognise those going above and beyond to improve the health and wellbeing of their communities, and members are invited to nominate a GP, registrar, supervisor, medical educator or practice making an outstanding impact in their field.

Nominations are open until 9.00 am (AEST), Monday 30 June.

Further information on award categories and criteria is available on the RACGP website. National winners will be honoured at an awards ceremony during GP25 this November.

Presented by Dr Adele Stewart, Chair of RACGP Specific Interests Pain Management, this webinar is the second in a series of four. It is ideal for GPs seeking to deepen their understanding of pain, enhance communication with patients, and improve the quality of care for individuals experiencing chronic pain.

This session unpacks the pain–fear cycle, the complexity of pain, why it often persists, and ways to influence pain beyond medication. This session will explore practical, evidence-based strategies to shift the balance toward safety and relief.
