A change to boost digital connectivity across primary care is expected to better support uptake of cancer screening.

Healthcare providers accessing cancer screening information directly through their clinical software can help boost uptake in screening programs.

This week’s In Practice also includes the latest advancements in cardiovascular care, a chance to meet the RACGP President and Tasmania Chair at an upcoming state-based member event, and a reminder about the new bulk-billing calculator.

Updates to National Cancer Screening Register
The recent integration of MMEx by ISA Healthcare with the National Cancer Screening Register (NCSR) marks a positive step in strengthening digital connectivity across primary care, and better supporting cancer screening. Healthcare providers accessing cancer screening information directly through their clinical software can better support patients to take part in screening programs, improving timely detection and care, the NCSR says.

Further information is available on the NCSR website, and updated communications toolkit and primary care onboarding kit to include integration and vendor information for MMEx are available on the NCSR website under resources.

Presented by cardiologists Associate Professor Ajita Kanthan, Associate Professor Michael Wong, and Dr James Lambert, this webinar is designed for clinicians and health services interested in learning about dual chamber pacing for cardiovascular conditions. The field of cardiac pacing is evolving rapidly, with a new leadless pacemaker designed to more closely mimic the heart’s natural heartbeat and support improved patient outcomes.

In the session, leading experts from across Australia will explore:

  • how dual-chamber leadless pacing differs from earlier devices
  • what this means for patient selection, clinical practice, and outcomes
  • practical implications for adoption in Australia.
A Q&A session will follow the discussion.

Bulk-billing calculator
The Federal Government’s recently released bulk-billing calculator aims to support GPs and practice owners work out practice payments for MBS services using the new Bulk Billed Practice Incentive Payment, in the lead up to 1 November bulk-billing changes. Designed to help GPs and practice owners consider the financial implications of offering 100% bulk billed appointments, the online tool can differentiate between types of practice and locations, as well as differences in the proportion of billings paid to the practice and varying consultation types.
