In Practice: Stay updated on new assignment of benefit processes
With reforms now in place, the RACGP is hosting another webinar to ensure GPs and practice teams are up to date.
Significant changes to assignment of benefit processes kicked in from 1 July, following strong advocacy from the RACGP.
This week’s In Practice also includes an opportunity for early-career GPs to help shape how the RACGP supports New Fellows, a reminder on changes to the MBS and PBS, and upcoming Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workshops.

Following strong advocacy from the RACGP, significant changes to the assignment of benefit processes are now in place.
Hosted by college President Dr Michael Wright, this second webinar will provide information for GPs and general practice teams to understand the changes and requirements for Medicare bulk-billed services as part of the 12-month transition period, as well as the new processes regarding enduring and verbal assignment of benefit.

New Fellows survey
The RACGP New Fellows Committee is running a survey to better understand how to improve the early-career GP experience. Insights from the survey will directly inform how the RACGP supports New Fellows.
Closing on 20 July, the survey takes approximately 15 minutes to complete, and responses are anonymous.
Reminder: 1 July MBS and PBS updates
As of 1 July, several changes to the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) are in place, as well as new listings added to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS). GPs are reminded to keep up to date with those impacting their practice.

Understanding Medicare: Fundamentals and compliance essentials for GPs

This webinar will provide an overview of the key principles of Medicare, how the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing supports the sustainability of the system, and the legislative obligations of providers. It will draw on key concepts from the Provider Handbook, and compliance strategy and priorities.
While the session is designed primarily for GPs in training and providers new to the system, all are welcome to attend, including practice managers.
National Guide workshops
Following strong engagement in Cairns and Brisbane, the National Guide workshop series continues with upcoming events in Melbourne, Alice Springs and Sydney.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health leaders and experienced clinicians will explore practical applications of the National Guide, to support GPs to strengthen their delivery of culturally safe preventive care, while earning CPD hours.
