On 1 July 2025, a new framework for Medicare chronic disease management items was introduced.

This week’s In Practice also includes information on nominating for a WONCA global scholarship, the last chance to apply for the RACGP’s 2026 Hackathon, and a provider change for some Personal Response System clients.

Changes to CDM framework: Updated FAQs
On 1 July 2025, a new framework for Medicare chronic disease management (CDM) items was introduced.

As GPs, practices, and patients work through this transition, the RACGP has updated its CDM FAQs to reflect the most up-to-date advice.

Members can also access webinars on the changes, featuring RACGP leaders, the Department of Health, Disability and Ageing, and industry experts, as well as summaries and factsheets.

WONCA global scholarship
Nominations for the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA) Donald Li Young Doctors’ Movement Global Scholarship are open until 29 January.

The scholarship recognises outstanding young GPs who demonstrate leadership, innovation, and commitment to advancing family medicine within their communities and beyond.

Applicants must:

  • be a member of WONCA and part of the Young Doctors’ Movement
  • demonstrate leadership, advocacy, and meaningful contributions to family medicine
  • highlight current activities and future aspirations.

Last chance to apply for the RACGP Hackathon 2026
There is just one week left to apply to be part of this year’s RACGP Hackathon.

This is a chance for GPs, clinical entrepreneurs, and developers to collaborate on real-world problems, and find unique and innovative solutions to improve general practice.

Across one weekend, participants will test their problem-solving skills, build their networks, and contribute to new digital health solutions.

Date: 13–15 March
Venue: Amazon Web Services, level 5/2 Park Street, Sydney

Provider change for some Personal Response System clients
Safety Link will no longer be providing Personal Response System (PRS) services to Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) clients under new contract arrangements.

All DVA Safety Link clients will be transitioned to an alternate DVA PRS contracted provider, either INS LifeGuard, Tunstall or VitalCALL.

The DVA says prescribers do not need to take any action to support this change, and that it will send letters to all DVA Safety Link clients, notifying them of the change and sharing details of their new provider.

The new provider will contact the client within three weeks of letters being sent to introduce themselves. They will also be responsible for advising the client of the timing of the changeover.

For more information, visit the DVA website.
