One week left for nominations for next RACGP president

With just one week left until nominations close, GPs interested in leading the college into the future are urged to step forward to become the next RACGP president.
 
Nominations are now open for current Fellows of the RACGP, with those ready to put their hand up encouraged to formally submit their intentions as soon as possible.
 
Nominations will remain open until 4.00 pm (AEST) on 20 July, with candidates announced four days later.
 
The RACGP president is an elected role and serves as a representative of both the college and its members, as well as being a director on the RACGP Board.
 
Their key responsibilities include acting as the principal public representative and spokesperson of the RACGP, representing the college in high-level engagements with governments, and attending key international forums.
 
The new president will also advocate for general practice, education, training and professional standards, and promote the college’s purpose, strategy and charitable objectives. 
 
Current RACGP President Dr Michael Wright is encouraging any eligible member who is passionate about the future of general practice to consider putting themselves forward.
 
‘Serving as president is a unique opportunity to represent the profession, advocate for GPs and our patients, and help shape the college’s strategic direction at an important time for Australian healthcare,’ he told newsGP.
 
‘We need strong, thoughtful leaders from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences. If you’ve ever considered taking on a leadership role within the college, I encourage you to nominate.
 
‘The RACGP is at its strongest when members actively participate in its governance. Standing for election is one of the most meaningful ways to contribute to the future of our profession and ensure the voices of GPs across Australia are represented.’
 
The president-elect will be revealed on 24 August, before officially taking over the role at the RACGP’s Annual General Meeting on 19 November.
