Results out for first RACGP exams of 2026
With an 80% success rate, the results confirm more candidates passed both Fellowship exams compared to the previous two cycles.
Since the same time last year, pass rates for both Fellowship exams have been steadily rising, with more than 80% of candidates successful in the 2026.1 cycles.
The RACGP has published details of performance outcomes from the most recent Fellowship exams – the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) and Key Feature Problem (KFP) 2026.1 cycles – revealing pass rates are steadily rising since the same time last year.
Across 16 and 17 January, more than 2200 future GPs sat for the AKT and KFP exams on the pathway to Fellowship of the RACGP (FRACGP), with more than 80% of candidates celebrating success across both assessments.
With 1127 candidates sitting the KFP and 1117 the AKT for the 2026.1 cycle, pass rate percentages for each exam are steadily growing from the previous two cycles.
The 2026.1 KFP had an overall pass rate of 84.12%, compared to 79.57% for the 2025.2 cycle and 76.89% for the 2025.1.
For the AKT, 80.57% of candidates successfully passed the 2026.1 exam, compared to 79.41% for the 2025.2 and 79.48% passing the 2025.1.
Dr Sharnti Caulley, RACGP AKT National Assessment Advisor, told newsGP the 2026.1 results demonstrate a ‘strong overall performance’ from candidates.
‘In this cycle the cohort achieved a mean score of 75.79% and ... approximately 30% of the candidates who sat the 2026.1 AKT achieved a P4 pass which is the highest band,’ she said.
RACGP KFP National Assessment Advisor, Dr Emilie Pitter, also welcomes the high pass rates and notes the importance of being well prepared for sitting the exams.
‘As for previous exam cycles, the candidate pass rate is highest for those attempting the KFP for the first time,’ she told newsGP.
‘In 2026.1 the first attempt pass rate was 90.08%, dropping to 62.4% and 61.76% for those at their second and third attempts respectively. This reinforces the need for candidates to be well prepared ahead of their initial attempt of the KFP.
‘As always, I strongly recommend candidates utilise the Self-Assessment Progress Tests found within gplearning as part of their exam preparation.
‘The public exam report also contains examples of questions that highlight what candidates needed to do to perform well and where common errors occurred.’
In comparison, pass rates for the AKT 2026.1 also dropped with each subsequent attempt, with 88.1% of candidates passing on their first attempt, 55.3% on the second, and 51.4% the third.
As well as the RACGP’s resources to support candidates in their preparation, each of the exam reports now include a detailed index of all 150 exam topics, each mapped to its corresponding RACGP Curriculum contextual unit.
‘This expanded transparency offers candidates and medical educators an additional learning resource to reflect on study coverage, identify knowledge gaps, and focus revision on areas of weakness,’ Dr Caulley said.
The next cycle of Fellowships exams is the 2026.2:
- AKT, Friday 3 July
- KFP, Saturday 4 July
- Clinical Competency Exam (CCE), Saturday 7 – Sunday 8 November and Saturday 14 – 15 November
