‘Such a rewarding role’: Last call for faculty council nominations
As the deadline approaches, RACGP Tasmania Chair Dr Toby Gardner describes the appeal of being involved.
RACGP Tasmania Chair Dr Toby Gardner says being on faculty council helps him to connect to like-minded GPs.
In the last few days for RACGP’s faculty election nominations, the college’s Tasmania Chair Dr Toby Gardner says the role makes him feel ‘part of something better’.
‘Being on the faculty council has allowed me to connect with other like-minded GPs all around the state, all of whom are dedicated to providing high-quality healthcare to their communities,’ he told newsGP.
‘Consider joining council if you’re passionate about what’s happening around you and want to see change.’
Dr Gardner, who has been instrumental in pushing for an expansion of GPs’ involvement in treating attention deficit hyperactivity disorder in Tasmania, said council members can help shape submissions and policy positions, as well as respond to media inquiries.
He urged GPs to consider putting themselves forward for nomination, even if they have not previously considered getting involved.
‘Being a member of council is such a rewarding part of my work and it allows me to connect to a community of Tasmanian GPs and feel like I am part of something better,’ Dr Gardner said.
Positions are open for seven state and territory based regional faculties, as well as for four specialised national faculties.
These include state-specific seats within the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, GPs in Training, and Rural faculties. There are also areas open for election within the Specific Interest faculty.
Nominations will close at 4.00 pm (AEST) on Friday 22 August.
Candidates are announced on 1 September. Voting for any contested positions will open at 12.00 pm (AEST) on the same day, and close at 12.00 pm (AEST) on 11 September.
The results are scheduled to be announced on 12 September, while the faculty chairs are due to be confirmed on 10 October.
