Voting open for RACGP Convocation
The top three submissions have been announced for this year, and RACGP members can now vote on their favoured proposal.
Convocation is an important member engagement activity which helps shape the college’s actions, says the RACGP President.
Convocation has returned to the RACGP in 2025, with voting now open for members.
Introduced at the college in 1978, Convocation allows members to propose ideas they believe will benefit themselves and their patients, as well as influence its future direction.
A shortlist of proposals has now been selected by the Board, with the winning proposal announced at the GP25 conference, ahead of the college’s Annual General Meeting, on 13 November.
This year, the RACGP received more than 40 proposals from members, with the three shortlisted representing a diversity of topical issues in general practice.
RACGP President Dr Michael Wright encourages members to have their say.
‘Convocation is a member-led process, and is one way for members to raise issues that matter to them and our profession, and to propose solutions for the college to look at in the year ahead,’ he told newsGP.
‘It is an important part of our member engagement to seek valuable feedback – helping to shape policies, advocacy priorities and resources to support GPs and general practice.
‘We look forward to seeing the winning proposal selected by members, and responding to it with a proper business plan.’
This year’s three shortlisted Convocation proposals are below.
Mental health crisis summit
Associate Professor Ralph Audehm
Proposal that the RACGP convene a crisis summit for mental health, inviting major players to participate and developing five key priorities for a way forward.
AI implementation to streamline and enhance trainees and members experience
Dr Tatiana Zandanova
Proposal for RACGP AI-enhanced administration and pathways. Simplification to provide transparency and unification for training bodies, regulatory authorities, and all Australian GP training stakeholders.
A college-led advertising campaign direct to the public to reinforce the value of seeing a GP
Dr Maximilian Mollenkopf
Proposal that the RACGP develops and funds a public education campaign and advertising campaign promoting the value of seeing a specialist GP.
Voting will remain open until 9.00 am (AEDT), Monday 10 November. The shortlisted proposals will be presented in person at Convocation on 13 November at GP25, with the winner announced on the day. Members who would like to attend Convocation, either in person or online, are invited to RSVP via Zoom.
Following GP25, the winning submission will be included for noting at the December RACGP Board meeting. A business case will then be prepared by the RACGP for review and proposed action by the Board in early 2026.
More information and to vote is available on the RACGP website. Any questions about Convocation can be sent to convocation@racgp.org.au.
