WHO IS ELIGIBLE FOR THE 19AB SIX-MONTH LOCUM EXEMPTION?
The six-month locum exemption applies to VR GPs who are restricted by 19AB (Fellowed Overseas-Trained Doctors and Australian-Trained Overseas Doctors) and who have not used this exemption within the previous 12 months. It permits work in a non-DPA practice for up to six consecutive months without altering the GP’s moratorium status and have access to Medicare Benefits. This is commonly used by VR GPs seeking temporary metropolitan placement, extended locum work, or an opportunity to trial a practice before considering a long-term role.

The position offers 70 percent of billings or a $185 per hour minimum guarantee (whichever is greater), supported by an experienced practice manager, senior receptionists, full-time nursing support, Best Practice software, Healthengine online bookings and 24/7 IT assistance.
