The Carrier Street Clinic is a long established clinic and teaching practice in Benalla in North East Victoria, with visiting rights to the local hospital, where we also see patients in the Urgent Care Centre on a roster with other doctors in the community, and care for our own inpatients. There is a wide variety of presentations in the clinic, with a large chronic disease burden, including a significant amount of skin cancer management for doctors with an interest. All other areas of General Practice are represented, and we host registrars (both RACGP and ACRRM), interns through the Murray to Mountains program and medical students. Teaching is a passion for us.
Benalla is a mixed farming and manufacturing town of 15,000 in the north east of Victoria. There is a variety of recreational activities available including sport, wineries, cycling, fishing, and the ski fields of Mount Buller and Mount Buffalo and Mount Hotham are an easy drive. Wangaratta, 40km away, is our local secondary referral centre, and Shepparton is 60km away. There are a number of visiting specialists to the hospital and providing outpatient care. There is good specialist support including telehealth and a good collegiate atmosphere within the 3 clinics in town.
