The team at Bowen Hospital is seeking applications from a Senior Medical Officer - General Practitioner/Rural Generalist to join their team on a Permanent Full Time (80 hrs p.f.) or Permanent Part Time basis.  

Your opportunity:

This is a unique opportunity to practise broad-scope, high-impact medicine at Bowen Hospital, a vibrant rural facility serving the Whitsunday region. As a Rural Generalist, you will work at the top of your scope across the facility. You will be part of a close-knit multidisciplinary team where your clinical expertise, leadership and decision-making genuinely shape local health outcomes.  

This role offers professional autonomy, meaningful continuity of care, and the chance to build lasting relationships within a welcoming coastal community, while contributing to service innovation, quality improvement education and the sustainability of rural healthcare delivery. Opportunity also exists for delivery of primary care in one of the several practices in the community or in the nearby Airlie Beach area. You will be joining a team of Senior Medical Officers, Principal House Officers, Interns and medical students working together to deliver high quality multidisciplinary care.    

The Bowen Hospital is a modern, well-equipped rural facility delivering essential health services to Bowen and surrounding coastal and agricultural districts. The 20-bed facility with 24-hour emergency also has chairs for chemotherapy and dialysis, CT and USS and visiting outpatient clinics.
