Hughenden is located on the Flinders Highway, 376 kilometres
west of Townsville, on the country of the Yirandhali people. The geography is volcanic basalt mountains
separating black soil plains, rich with dinosaur fossils. There are five national parks close by. The main industry is farming, largely cattle
and sheep grazing.
The greater part
of this role will involve providing high quality primary care services at the
Local General practice, Hughenden Doctors Surgery, working as a salaried medical
officer for the HHS with allocated time at the surgery.
The role also involves
provision of emergency and inpatient medical services for the Hughenden and in
some cases may require support to be provided to the Richmond Multipurpose
Health Service (MPHS). The Multipurpose
Health Service provides community health, inpatient (acute and long-stay),
outpatient and emergency services to the local community. Telehealth services reduce the need for
patient travel. Local staff are
supplemented by visiting specialist medical, dental, nursing and allied health
services from Townsville Hospital and Health Service (THHS), Non-Government
Organisations and Private Providers.
Candidates ideally have:
- Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote
Medicine ( FACRRM) or Fellowship of the
Royal Australian College of General Practitioners- Rural Generalist ( FRACGP –
RG)

- Advanced Skills in: Emergency Medicine, Small Town General
Practice, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health, Mental health and palliative care are highly desirable.
- Fellowship of Royal Australian College of General
Practitioners ( FRACGP) with emergency experience is also highly desirable
Renumeration is competitive and total estimated Renumeration is $334,664 to $488,392 including all available allowances. Accommodation provisions in place and relocation reimbursement up to $20,000 as Per Directive 11/11.
