Healthcare
Australia (HCA) is a major provider of healthcare services across Australia. In
December 2024, we began providing health, mental health, and wellbeing services
across the onshore Immigration Detention network. Our team of nurses, general
practitioners, and allied health professionals offer a range of healthcare
services, including health assessments, chronic disease management, health
promotion, wound management, immunizations, and other primary health
interventions. HCA also launched a 24/7 Virtual Care Centre
(VCC), offering remote healthcare through telehealth and video consultations to
enhance onsite care for detainees.
This
position demands a strong foundation in general practice and primary
healthcare, along with specialised knowledge of the unique health needs within
the detention environment—particularly in areas such as mental health and
substance use. A key responsibility of the role is to provide clinical
supervision and serve as the primary escalation point for health staff working
within the immigration detention centre.
You must
hold a medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and have full registration with the
Medical Board of Australia, without restrictions. Fellowship with the Royal
Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), the Australian College of
Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM), or equivalent substantial clinical practice
experience .
Experience
in telehealth is highly desirable, along with demonstrated capability in
managing mental health and alcohol or other drug concerns. Authorisation as an
opioid substitution treatment prescriber is preferred, or a willingness to
obtain authorisation in your jurisdiction.
You should
also have knowledge and experience in managing public health issues,
particularly communicable diseases, and a strong understanding of the needs of
vulnerable populations.
Excellent
communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work
effectively within a multidisciplinary team. You must demonstrate a clear
understanding of ethical considerations and confidentiality in healthcare
delivery and be able to navigate and adapt to a complex and challenging
healthcare environment.
