The Rural Faculty has been involved in many activities and submissions this month. As Chair of the Rural Faculty, I am encouraged by the work we are doing to enhance rural member engagement, education, and policy development.
In the training space, I’m delighted to report that RACGP Rural currently boasts 140 registrars enrolled in the RACGP-RG fellowship for this year. Additionally, there are 304 FSP registrars currently training in MM3-7, while we have 1000 post-PEP participants within the candidacy timeframe. These figures reflect our strong engagement and the educational pathways the RACGP provides future GPs and RGs.
We’ve also submitted a comprehensive response to the parliamentary inquiry addressing the NDIS participant experience in rural, regional, and remote areas of Australia. The insights gathered from our members have provided valuable perspectives on the challenges faced by GPs in delivering person-centered care to NDIS participants within our communities.
Rural Council members have been actively involved in consultation meetings for the Scope of Practice Review, where we have advocated for effective communication and the implementation of a centralised data approach. As we navigate these vital initiatives, we remain committed to fostering positive change in rural healthcare through informed and strategic advocacy.
Your Rural Faculty has a full calendar of events and education planned for 2024, including:
International Women’s Day is also around the corner. This year’s theme is ‘Count Her In: Invest in Women. Accelerate Progress’, which highlights the importance of pathways to greater economic inclusion for women and girls everywhere. The Doctors for Women in Rural Medicine Committee is hosting a special online event with RACGP President Dr Nicole Higgins, who will be joined by Endocrinologist and Director of Monash Centre for Health Research Implementation Professor Helena Teede AM for a keynote address.
Prof Teede is passionate about advancing women’s careers to enable them to have influence, and heads the International Women in Leadership training program and the Advancing Women in Healthcare and Health and Medical Research Leadership initiative, funded by the National Health Medical Research Council.
