Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS) changes
The new year brings an end to some temporary MBS items and extensions to others, as well as increases to the Medicare safety net. Read the full list on our website, but in summary:

Smoking cessation items are not being extended, but these services can be provided through general consultation items

Several COVID-19 measures are being extended, including item 93716 to prescribe COVID-19 antiviral medication via telephone

A new exemption to the established clinical relationship requirement will be introduced for specified telehealth services provided at eligible urgent care clinics

Pregnancy support telehealth items have been extended along with blood borne viruses, sexual, or reproductive health service telehealth items

The Original Medicare Safety Net (OMSN) will increase from $531.70 to $560.40. The Extended Medicare Safety Net (EMSN) will increase from $770.30 to $811.80 for concessional individuals and families and from $2,414.00 to $2,544.30 for non-concessional individuals and families.
