We want to share a heartfelt thank you for participating in the Fellowship Support Program and choosing to support your registrar/s every day. We appreciate the continuous effort and time you are investing in your registrar/s and hope you can see the value in the work you’re doing. Delivery of this program wouldn’t be possible without you and we’re very thankful.

End of term reports and payment

Thank you to all our supervisors who have already finalised and submitted your end-of-term report/s. We sent a reminder late last week however this is just a final reminder to submit your report/s by Friday 15 December 2023.

If you’re unsure on how to complete the report in the FSP portal, please follow the steps below:

Log in to your RACGP account
Click on ‘My Account’ in the top right corner
From the list, select ‘FSP Portal’
Click on the registrar from your list
Go to the ‘Assessment and Forms’ section
Select the blue button labelled ‘Registrar progress +’
Select ‘End of term’ for ‘Report Timing’ and complete all sections on the form, if you can’t provide a comment in certain sections type ‘Not applicable’.
Ensure your report is finalised and complete the ‘Initiator acknowledgement’ section.

You’ll be paid $150 + GST and super per finalised report. If you have yet to accept your Statement of Works (SOW) or Master Services Agreement (MSA) on PayGP you’ll need to do this as soon as possible or we can’t pay you.

Introducing your Supervisor Liaison Officer

We recently welcomed Dr Ian Kamerman as our FSP Supervisor Liaison Officer (SLO). The SLO acts as a conduit between supervisors and the College as well as providing supervisors with advice and support when needed. Dr Kamerman is happy to be contacted any time on Ian.Kamerman@racgp.org.au.

Dr Kamerman has written the below message so you can get to know him and his role a little better.

G’day. My name is Ian Kamerman and I’m your Supervisor Liaison Officer for FSP. My day job is as a practice owner in Tamworth NSW, where we have AGPT, PEP and FSP registrars, plus I’m also an RVTS supervisor. Some of you out there are AGPT supervisors so will be familiar with the concept of an SLO. However, many of you may not have been a formally appointed supervisor in the past.

Think of me as a support, a mentor and a conduit. As an experienced supervisor I can assist supervisors who want help or advice around the program or with registrar issues that fall outside medical education and training. I also represent supervisor views to the RACGP, especially with regard to the FSP operationally.

FSP, unlike most of the other general practice training pathways, interacts with so many different bodies. Supervisors will find that many of their registrars are working under limited registration, with AHPRA supervision requirements. On top of this there are college training requirements. Then there is preparation for the FRACGP exams. Most importantly there is the responsibility of ensuring that patients are looked after well and safely.

Things to note

Q&A sessions

Supervisor Q&A sessions are hosted by Dr Rod Omond. They offer an opportunity to ask questions you may have regarding supervision for the FSP however you don’t have to attend. We try to schedule sessions on different days of the week to enable attendance. Keep an eye out for the next Q&A session in the new year.

Going on leave?

If you're going on leave for more than two weeks, please complete a change in circumstance form. We'll need to know what supervision arrangements are in place for your registrar whilst you're away. In the past we've directed you to the FSP Portal to complete the form and for that we're sorry as it wasn't available.

FSP Supervisor accreditation

If you aren’t currently accredited as a registrar supervisor with Australian General Practice Training (AGPT), you’ll need to be FSP accredited. If you haven’t already had your FSP Supervisor Accreditation Interview you will be contacted by the Accreditation team to schedule this in.

In the meantime, please complete the Foundations of GP Supervision and the Introduction Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness modules, both are assigned to you on gplearning.

Applications open soon for the FSP

Do you know someone wanting to apply for the FSP? If yes, let your friends and/or colleagues know that applications for the 2024.2 FSP cohort open Monday 15 January 2024 and close Monday 12 February 2024.

Be sure to pass on our website so they can register their interest for the program or register to attend one of our upcoming application webinars.

RACGP end-of-year closedown

As a courtesy we’d like to let you know that RACGP offices will be closed from the end of the day Friday 22 December 2023, and re-open Tuesday 2 January 2024. We’re operating with skeletal staff over this period so please don’t be concerned if your enquiry isn’t answered immediately.

We hope you’ve had a wonderful year personally and professionally and enjoyed the FSP too. We wish you a happy and safe holiday period, with a well-deserved rest. We’ll be back in touch in the early new year and look forward to working with you.
