Medicare provider number applications due 3 June!

An important reminder to confirm your placement through the TMS Placement Portal and organise a Medicare Provider Number (MPN) by 3 June. This allows time for RACGP teams to work with Services Australia to ensure your MPN is allocated prior to the start of the semester.

Late MPN applications may cause delays to your placement, as you cannot begin working at a training site until your MPN is allocated.

You must still submit an MPN application form if you're staying at the same training site in 2024.2. If you have questions about the MPN, please visit this page, or speak with your training coordinator. 

Update on Workplace Based Assessments for 2024.2

From 2024.2, GPT1, GPT2, and GPT3 registrars will complete: 

• two supervisor-run mini-CEX  

• two supervisor-run RCAs.  

These will be completed by supervisors directly in the training management system (TMS), like term assessments are. 

The assessments will appear as required in 2024.2 with no action needed until the start of next semester. Further resources will be shared closer to this time.  

Exam preparation - Self Assessment Progress Test

The May Self Assessment Progress Test (SAPT) is now available via gplearning.  

SAPTs include applied knowledge test (AKT) questions and key feature problem (KFP) cases taken from previous RACGP exam papers. They’re designed to help you identify learning needs, self-assess progress and clinical reasoning and develop written exam skills. They provide immediate and specific feedback on how you perform in RACGP Fellowship exams.    

Once the test is complete, you can access the correct answers, the rationale behind the response, resources for that topic, appropriate curriculum link/s and suggestions for further study. Visit our exam planning webpage for further support and resources.

The national AKT and KFP information webinar recording is now available via gplearning.

WA and Vic registrars – sign up for your regional Academic Post Program webinar

Applications for a fully funded academic post in 2025 are now open, closing 15 July 2024. 

To support you through the application process, we’re hosting an information webinar with the university partners in your region. During this session you’ll learn about: 

• Teaching and academic opportunities across different general practice departments 

• The process of partnering with a university to develop a research proposal  

• The next steps to submit an academic post application. 

Changes to base rates of pay for 2024.2

From 1 July 2024, registrars on an existing contract will continue to receive the minimum base rate for 2023-24 (BR23) until the end of the semester, with a statutory increase in superannuation to 11.5%. 

The base rate for semester two will increase for all GPT levels, with an agreed 1% increase to the current base rate, plus MBS indexation (MBSi). Please visit the General Practice Registrars Australia website for more information. 

James Cook University transition update

We’re looking forward to the North West Queensland region moving into the College from 11 June. 

Our transition project team is working hard to ensure a smooth integration as we deliver the Australian General Practice Training Program across the country.    

We’ve been successfully recruiting and have begun announcing new team members internally. Information sessions have been set up for JCU supervisors and registrars to encourage feedback as we progress through transition.
