James Cook University (JCU) has announced it will transition away from GP training delivery in 2024

We are ready to welcome and unite GP training in Queensland following the news that JCU will transition away from GP training delivery in 2024. 

Following the successful transition of the AGPT Program to the RACGP in February last year, the College leadership, operations and systems are prepared to deliver AGPT training in Northwest Queensland in June 2024. We were pleased to see positive feedback from GPs in training in the most recent Medical Training Survey following the transition. 

As always, registrars, supervisors and practice managers who are engaged in GP training are our priority. 

Practices and registrars in Northwest Queensland are already using RACGP systems, which will assist with the transition. 

The RACGP’s nationally consistent, regionally supported, and locally delivered GP training program has been built to support every community and we look forward to continuing this work across all of Queensland. 

While the timing and finer details of the transition of program delivery will be confirmed at an appropriate time, both organisations have committed to making it as seamless as possible. The GP training team is here to support our members and is committed to keeping you informed about the process between now and June. 

What payments am I entitled to as a GP supervisor?

As a GP supervisor, you’re entitled to teaching payments via the National Consistent Payments Framework (NCP). These payments are made by Services Australia. They’re either paid to the practice for distribution to supervisors or paid directly to the supervisor in accordance with the payment preference selection in the TMS. 

The RACGP also provides a supervisor professional development stipend to support attendance at RACGP approved supervisor professional development activities. These payments are in addition to NCP and are paid directly to training sites by the RACGP. It’s the RACGP’s expectation that the supervisor professional development stipend is distributed in full to the supervisors at the training site in proportion to their engagement in the supervisor professional development activities.

2024.2 placement process begins 11 March

The placement process for 2024.2 will kick off on Monday, 11 March, when training site capacity updates (formerly known as the practice capacity survey) open. From this date, you'll be able to log into the TMS and update your training capacity for 2024.2. This is also an opportune time to review and update your practice profile ahead of registrar applications opening on Monday, 15 April.
