Happy New Year and welcome to what is already promising to be a busy 2024 in the advocacy space.
We have hit the ground running this year, starting with finalising the 2024 Pre-Budget submission. The submission, sent to Treasurer of Australia Dr Jim Chalmers MP and Minister for Health and Aged Care Mark Butler MP, will inform the federal budget to be released on Tuesday 14 May 2024. Although the details have not yet been released, the RACGP Rural Faculty has had the opportunity to provide input to the College’s submission, which reflects the RACGP’s strategic vision for 2024, emphasising the essential role of rural GPs, the rural community, international medical graduates, and the FSP program in our workforce solution. I look forward to sharing this with you in the future and advocating for funding reform to support the health of all Australians.
The RACGP Rural Faculty Executive met last week to discuss strategy and priorities for 2024, with many exciting changes and opportunities for our Rural members in the pipeline. One of the significant outcomes of the Executive meeting was identifying our key priorities for 2024:
- Rural Education activities and delivering quality programs to members in regional communities.
- Rural Workforce Sustainability and Member Support through Federal and State government advocacy.
- Rural Generalist (RG) recognition for members who are already doing the work and will benefit from receiving the FRACGP-RG, and supporting those who want to train towards that endpoint.
These priorities have been informed by our membership and we look forward to engaging with you all and sharing our action plan for turning these priorities into tangible outcomes.
Email RACGP Rural or join the conversation in our Facebook group so we can continue to advocate for you on issues that matter.
A/Prof Michael Clements
