Immediate Past President Dr Bastian Seidel penned a letter for RACGP members.

Dr Bastian Seidel described his time as RACGP President as ‘humbling on many levels’.

My presidency was transitional, taking the RACGP from the periphery of reacting to health policies to the centre of actively shaping them.

The relevance of the RACGP is increasingly obvious to GPs, our political decision makers, the press and the Australian public at large, as we are increasingly asked about direct health issues of public interest.

Ensuring increased funding for general practice through the additional, yet initial, investment of well over half a billion dollars through to the re-indexation of Medicare rebates, investing in general practice research in year one of my presidency, and ensuring the return of a fully funded GP training program to the college in year two of my term, will shape the RACGP over the next decade.

It has been a genuine privilege representing you and our profession as the President of the RACGP. It has been humbling on many levels.

With more than 39,000 members, we now represent well over 90% of all GPs in Australia. This is a remarkable development and something of which I am immensely proud.

I would like to thank all local, state and national RACGP committee members for their leading advice, and our RACGP Board members for having the confidence to make difficult decisions.

I would also like to express sincere gratitude to RACGP Chief Executive Officer Dr Zena Burgess, her outstanding senior leadership team, and the RACGP staff who work absolutely tirelessly for our college and our members.

Thank you and very best wishes.
