Funding injection for Victorian mental health services
The State Government has announced it will provide $70 million to the state’s mental health sector to help ensure people ‘don’t fall through the cracks’.
Victorian Health Minister Martin Foley said the funding will be given over two years to assist community mental health providers in delivering tailored support to people who are either not eligible for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) or yet to transition to the scheme.
The funding is targeted at helping people who are experiencing severe mental health issues.
As part of the funding package, the Victorian Government said it will provide $50 million to community mental health organisations to deliver a new service and provide job security for people who provide mental health services.
Disability and community mental health agencies will be able to access an additional $20 million in grants to help adapt their business model and respond to the transition to the NDIS.
‘We’re giving Victorians with a disability or severe mental illness the support they need, and investing in the hundreds of valued, dedicated workers in the community mental health sector that care for them,’ Minister Foley said.
