Voting in the RACGP Faculty elections provides an opportunity to shape the future of the general practice profession.

With the nominees for this year’s RACGP Faculty elections having been announced, voting for contested electorates is set to open from midday Friday 25 August.

There are nine contested electorates for 2023 which will go into an election vote:

  • Victoria
  • Queensland
  • South Australia
  • RACGP Rural – Western Australia
  • RACGP Specific Interests network Chair roles for:
    • Breast Medicine
    • Cardiology
    • Musculoskeletal, Sport and Exercise Medicine
    • Pain Management
    • Sexual Health Medicine
‘Faculty Council members act as a sounding board for members and play a key influential role in supporting general practice within the community,’ Dr Lara Roeske, Chair of the RACGP Board and RACGP Specific Interests told newsGP.

‘I encourage members of contested electorates to step forward and cast a vote for their Faculty Council representative, who will advocate for what matters most – helping to shape policies and decisions that impact our day-to-day practice as GPs and the future of our profession.’

Seven Chair positions are being contested within the RACGP Specific Interests groups. Each group represents a specialised area of healthcare, of which each play a key part in the college’s ongoing work, according to Dr Roeske.

‘The RACGP Specific Interests groups are made up of hardworking GPs who have developed an interest in specific areas of general practice throughout their career,’ she said.

‘These skills and experience are applied to each group, which provide the opportunity to share information and knowledge by regular contact.

‘Representing the Specific Interests Faculty on the Council has many rewards, including valuable upskilling and networking opportunities, and regular chances to contribute as a spokesperson for their specific area of interest.’

Voting opens 12.00 pm (AEST) Friday 25 August and closes 12.00 pm (AEST) Tuesday 5 September. Elected Faculty Council members will be announced Thursday 7 September.
