The Censor-in-Chief sits on the RACGP Board and is responsible for ensuring an education governance framework is in place.

Nominations are now open for the RACGP Censor-in-Chief position until 3 June.

The Censor-in-Chief provides academic leadership, strategic and policy advice, and guidance on educational matters across the organisation.

The RACGP is inviting qualified candidates to nominate themselves for this significant position to play a vital role in shaping the future of educational undertakings.

Chair of the RACGP Board, Dr Lara Roeske, told newsGP the Censor-in-Chief holds responsibility for academic governance principles within the college.

‘The Censor-in-Chief with the Board plays a pivotal role in advocating for policies that safeguard the wellbeing of our patients and advance the standards of medicine,’ she said.

‘The role holds responsibility for establishing and maintaining standards relating to education, training and assessment, as well as ensuring consistent and fair education policies are implemented.

‘This is as important as ever now that the RACGP is responsible for delivering the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) Program.’

AGPT Program participants have reported high satisfaction with its delivery since the RACGP and ACRRM officially returned to the helm in February last year.

Behind the scenes, the RACGP’s Curriculum for Australian general practice, its Standards for general practice training, as well as exam assessment, are all part of the Censor-in-Chief’s remit.

Dr Roeske said this election is vital to ensure consistency and stability for future education and training policies and standards.

‘I urge members to have your say on the first of our important elections for the year, and nominate a Fellow you feel will promote academic excellence at the RACGP by providing training, education and assessment governance expertise and guidance on education matters across the organisation,’ she said.

‘This is an opportunity to shape the academic direction and educational standards of your college.’

Nominations for the RACGP Censor-in-Chief close Monday 3 June at 4.00 pm, with candidates announced on 5 June. Only current Fellows of the RACGP can be nominated for the Censor-in-Chief position, however all RACGP Fellows and members can support nominations. More information is available on the RACGP elections webpage.
