Call to action: Future Leaders wanted
Applications for the program remain open, with one alumna saying those thinking of applying will ‘find that you are more than worthy’.
Applications for the RACGP Future Leaders Program will remain open until 10 November 2024.
The RACGP has continued its search for the next generation of leaders, with applications now open for a nationwide development program.
The 2025 RACGP Future Leaders Program is designed to help GPs develop their skills and abilities in influencing the future of general practice.
For those still deciding whether to put their hand up, one recent graduate is encouraging all members to give it a go.
Now sitting as the RACGP SA&NT New Fellows Committee Chair, Dr Kay Flynn said the program was an invaluable experience.
‘The courage to put your hand up for something like this is matched by the rewards of what comes out of it,’ she told newsGP.
‘You may not think you’re worthy of it, you may not think you have what it takes, but in doing it, you’ll find that you are more than worthy.
‘As professionals, we are our own business, and it helps you to become more aware of your abilities and helps you to focus on where you want to go.’
The program is aimed at those GPs who have some leadership experience but have not pursued formal qualifications.
As part of its learnings, participants will receive expert guidance from a specialist team, as well as online resources.
The program boasts a long list of successful graduates, from current RACGP President Dr Nicole Higgins to President-elect Dr Michael Wright, NSW&ACT Chair Dr Rebekah Hoffman, and SA Chair Dr Sian Goodson.
As for Dr Flynn, she said Future Leaders equipped her with skills she still uses to this day.
‘Whether or not you then put your hand up to take on a new leadership role, I think it just makes us more effective in communication, and understanding how the world works, and structures,’ she said.
‘But also, the connections that you make … it’s incredible and sometimes I’m like, “how did I get in this room? Oh, that’s right, Future Leaders”.’
Applications for the RACGP Future Leaders Program will remain open until 10 November 2024.
