In Practice: AHPRA to detail registration restrictions
The health regulator is hosting an information session on restrictions placed on the registration of practitioners, and how they work.
AHPRA is providing health practitioners with a detailed overview on what registration restrictions are, how they work, and how employers can support employees with restrictions.
This week’s In Practice also includes details about upcoming changes to the format of the RACGP’s Key Feature Problem exam, new training standards, and a reminder for GP24 pre-conference workshops registration.

Update to Key Feature Problem exam format
The RACGP’s Key Feature Problem (KFP)
exam format is being updated in response to candidate feedback, starting from the 2025.2 exam cycle.
The college is not changing what it assesses, only the format by which it assesses. From 2025.2, the exam will consist of 70 individual scenarios, each with a multiple selection question. Short answer questions will be removed from the KFP, so exam candidates will no longer be required to handwrite responses.
The paper answer bubble sheet is similar to that used for the Applied Knowledge Test, and the exam will remain four hours in duration and delivered in the same locations as the current exams. The new format will also allow faster processing of marking, making results available prior to Clinical Competency Exam enrolments. It will also improve accessibility for candidates with special requirements.
More information and exam preparation resources are available on
the RACGP website.
Updated Standards for general practice training
The RACGP’s
Standards for general practice training ensure quality and safe general practice education and training, so that trainees, supervisors, medical educators, regulators, and the community can have confidence in the integrity of qualifications issued by the RACGP.
The transition to college-led training necessitates an update of the Standards, and the RACGP has set the bar higher for general practice training with the first-ever outcome-based standards.
The RACGP’s
fourth edition Standards for general practice training will be fully implemented in 2025 and launched at
GP24.
RACGP Tasmania one-day menopause workshop
Date: Saturday 26 October, 9.00 am – 3.45 pm
Venue: RACGP office, 62 Patrick Street, Hobart
Cost: Members $85 | Registrars $65 | Non-members $110
RACGP Tasmania invites all members to its upcoming one-day workshop exploring menopause: ‘Give women the gold standard, not scraps of empowerment’. Designed for GPs and GPs in training, this workshop will address current clinical topics relevant to professional needs.
Following the overwhelming response to the faculty’s
recent Women in General Practice Weekend, which focused on menopause, RACGP Tasmania wants to extend the opportunity to all college members to access a condensed one-day version of the program. Male GPs are particularly encouraged to consider coming to learn more about providing gold standard care to patients who may be experiencing perimenopause and menopause.
The workshop is intended to be a practical and interactive program with plenty of opportunities to meet and talk with other GPs. Attendees will also earn four EA CPD hours, plus one MO CPD hour.
