In Practice: EOIs for education research grants
The Education Research Grant program supports research to strengthen the future of medical education and general practice training.
The RACGP is hosting a webinar on 15 April to provide more information for prospective Education Research Grant applicants.
This week’s In Practice also includes new TGA advice in medicinal cannabis prescribing, and CPD-eligible events on RACGP Foundation grants and preparing for flu season.
EOIs now open for Education Research Grants
The RACGP’s Education Research Grant (ERG) program is a Department of Health and Aged Care funded grant scheme dedicated to advancing medical education and training in general practice. It serves as a catalyst for innovation, providing funding and a collaborative platform for researchers committed to the future of GP training.
Expressions of interest for the 2026 program close on Friday 30 May.
The RACGP is hosting a webinar on Tuesday 15 April for prospective ERG applicants to discover more about this year’s program and ask questions about the application process. Register online.
Further details, including the 2026 research priorities, are available on the RACGP website.
Clarification of paediatric policy for medicinal cannabis prescribing
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) is reminding health practitioners that caution is advised when using unapproved medicinal cannabis products containing tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) to treat paediatric patients. The TGA cites the potential risks of exposure to THC-containing medicinal cannabis products for developing brains.
The TGA website clarifies the established requirements to access unapproved medicinal cannabis medicines for paediatric patients. It mentions consideration of a new timeframe for approval of paediatric applications, however, no changes are being made at this time.
Further advice or information can be emailed to medicinal.cannabis@health.gov.au.
