In Practice: EOIs for Practice Owners Conference presentations
Expressions of interest are now open to present at the RACGP’s annual conference for current and aspiring practice owners.
RACGP members are invited to present at this year’s Practice Owners Conference, to share how they are helping to shape the future of general practice.
This week’s In Practice also includes upcoming CPD activities to upskill in social prescribing and sleep health, as well as a callout for GPs to deliver domestic and family violence education to primary care staff.
Interested in presenting at the 2025 Practice Owners Conference?
The RACGP is offering members with a passion for innovation the opportunity to present at this year’s Practice Owners Conference, taking place in Melbourne from 24–25 May.
This year’s theme is ‘Shaping general practice for the future’, with the program exploring topics including multidisciplinary teams, technology and innovation, clinical governance, financial management and environmental standards.
From health economics to business innovation, members can share how they are shaping the future of general practice. Expressions of interest opened Thursday 20 February and can be submitted online.
Going beyond medication and using psychosocial prescribing

Join RACGP Specific Interests for ‘A holistic approach to sadness and anxiety: Going beyond medication and using psychosocial prescribing’ to learn about practical, evidence-based approaches to addressing common barriers to social connection, in particular, social prescribing.
This session will discuss the role of GP psychotherapy and social prescribing as part of a broader management strategy to address mental health concerns.
Chair of RACGP Specific Interests Psychological Medicine, Dr Cathy Andronis, and Chair of RACGP Specific Interests Social Prescribing, Dr Kuljit Singh, will explore how whole-person care and social prescribing can be used as a powerful approach to enhance patient wellbeing through addressing their social and emotional needs.
World Sleep Day: Sleep health advances in primary care

Join RACGP Healthy Habits, in partnership with the Australasian Sleep Association and the Sleep Health Foundation, for this RACGP-accredited activity.
Sleep health is a key pillar of preventive care, crucial for mental and physical wellbeing. In this one-hour educational session, leading sleep health experts will discuss:
- the current landscape of sleep health in Australia
- risk factors and health consequences of poor sleep
- a multi-dimensional model of sleep health
- case studies, practical strategies, tools and resources to improve sleep health prevention and management in primary care.
A recording will be available for all registrants who cannot attend on the night.
Improving the capacity of primary care to respond to domestic and family violence
The University of Melbourne’s
Safer Families Centre is offering casual employment for GPs to become facilitators to virtually deliver domestic and family violence (DFV) education to primary care staff across Australia.
This role will co-deliver group training with a trained DFV facilitator to a limited number of primary care staff. Support from the Safer Families Centre will be provided, all materials included, and time will be remunerated, including attendance at a paid facilitator orientation training program (six hours across two sessions).
The role is for people with:
- prior training, experience or an interest in addressing DFV or trauma-informed care
- skills and experience in training small groups on sensitive issues
- experience engaging with services such as DFV, mental health, alcohol and other drugs, or sexual assault services
- strong communication skills and experience in public speaking.

World Lymphoedema Day

World Lymphoedema Day, the Sydney Breast Care Foundation is hosting a webinar designed to provide insights and strategies to reduce the risk of developing lymphoedema following surgery.
Learning outcomes include:
- enhancing clinician understanding of patient risk factors and incidence of developing lymphoedema following surgery
- understanding how breast surgery techniques are changing to reduce the risk of developing lymphoedema
- learning how to recognise the differences between lymphoedema and lipoedema and when surgical intervention may be required
- appreciating the importance of early intervention, including models of care and referral pathways to reduce the risk of developing lymphoedema.
With a live Q&A, this webinar is suitable for clinicians working in general practice, oncology disciplines and oncoplastic/plastic surgery.
