In Practice: Last chance for early bird rates

IMiA 2023 – Early bird registration for a limited time
GPs are well-placed to help patients struggling with addiction, providing non-judgemental support, treatment, and referral.
Registrations are now open for the biennial International Medicine in Addiction (IMiA) conference, with early bird rates due to close on Sunday 27 November.
The event, a collaboration between the RACGP, Royal Australian College of Physicians and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, will present a diverse and thought-provoking program covering the latest in addiction research and clinical practice.
IMiA23 will be held in Melbourne from Friday to Sunday, 17–19 February 2023.

Expression of interest in becoming a DipRGA examiner
In February, the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists, in conjunction with RACGP and ACRRM, will deliver the first diploma of rural generalist anaesthesia (DipRGA). This will take the place of the previous JCCA qualification.
The DipRGA Examinations Committee is seeking expressions of interest for examiners to take part in one or both of the following activities:
- Develop and standard set multiple choice questions (MCQs) for the DipRGA MCQ examination
- Develop questions and take part as an examiner in the DipRGA-SSSA (Standardised, Structured, Scenario-based assessment)

Successful applicants will become members of the DipRGA Court of Examiners.
Australian Bragg Centre and Targeting Cancer GP information evening
The Australian Bragg Centre for Proton Therapy and Research is currently under construction in Adelaide, due for completion at the end of 2023.
The synchrotron will be assembled at this time, with the first patient treatment scheduled at the beginning of 2025. This will be the first clinical proton therapy facility in Australia and New Zealand.
GPs or other key members of multidisciplinary teams who want to know more about this treatment option can learn how to support patients in survivorship who have had proton therapy.
Join an in-person GP information evening at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute Auditorium on 1 December at 5.30 pm to hear from some of the team working to bring proton therapy to Australia.
GPs can also attend this event online via Zoom.

RACGP ‘Mental bites’ webinar series
Interpersonal therapy – a practical guide using a trauma lens

‘Mental bites’ is a new lunch-time series with bite-sized information presented by RACGP Specific Interests.
In the 10th and final webinar of the series, GP and Specific Interests Psychological Medicine Chair Dr Cathy Andronis will discuss inter-personal therapy, an important and useful Focussed Psychological Strategy for mood disorders that is often overlooked.
With its origins in depression research, inter-personal therapy has evolved to include practical techniques that are easily implemented in general practice for many problems, including grief and eating disorders.

RACGP Library resource trial
As part of efforts to expand the library’s range of ejournals for member access, the RACGP John Murtagh Library has organised a trial of ProQuest Health and Medical Collection to help gauge member interest.
The resource includes:
- full text articles from hundreds of journals
- access to core medical titles eg BMJ, NEJM, Lancet
- short publisher embargoes on access to full-text articles from most titles
- intuitive searching.

The trial runs until 3 December and the RACGP would appreciate members taking the time to look at this resource and send feedback on the ease of use, usefulness and anticipated usage if subscription goes ahead.
