In the last edition for 2022, GPs can find information on meeting obligations and responsibilities when prescribing PBS medicines.

GP prescribing medicine
Prescribers have obligations and responsibilities they must meet when prescribing via the PBS.

This week’s round-up also includes new Comcare resources and exclusive RACGP member benefits.

New fact sheets – Prescribing and supplying PBS medicines
The Department of Health and Aged Care has developed two new fact sheets to assist prescribers and pharmacists in meeting their obligations and responsibilities under legislation that governs the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).

Prescribing Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme medicines – what prescribers need to know
This fact sheet is designed to support health practitioners who prescribe under the PBS. It is for doctors, dentists, optometrists, nurse practitioners and midwives.

Supplying medicines – what pharmacists need to know
This fact sheet is primarily aimed at pharmacists and summarises their responsibilities when supplying and claiming items under the PBS.

New Comcare resource and webinar
Comcare has released a new resource for GPs and allied health professionals on facilitating good work for your patient.

The new fact sheet is part of a suite of resources that provide information on treating patients with work-related illness or injury and is a companion guide to Comcare’s Psychological assessment: Assessing a patient’s capacity for work guide.

Together, the two resources provide practical advice on how GPs can support their patients to access the health benefits of good work for sustainable recovery and return to health.

Comcare, in collaboration with the Mental Health Professionals’ Network, has also developed a free webinar for GPs and other treating health practitioners on collaborating with the workplace to enable good work for your patient.

The webinar discusses how GPs can support a patient’s recovery by facilitating their continued participation in and return to work in a way that improves their health and wellbeing.

RACGP member benefits
Members of the RACGP can now enjoy a large range of offers from leading Australian retailers, including everyday essentials, professional benefits, a wide range of electronics and luxury car purchases.
