GP feedback is being sought on whether patient-reported measures are acceptable, appropriate and meaningful in the general practice context.

Are patient-reported experience measures appropriate in the general practice context? NSW GPs can answer via a new survey.

This week’s In Practice also includes another chance for GPs to have their say on subsidised medicines via a PBS authorities survey.

Patient-reported measures general practice pilot
New South Wales Health’s Agency for Clinical Innovation Patient Reported Measures (PRMs) is inviting GPs, practices and their staff to complete a five-minute survey to consider whether the patient-reported experience measures (PREMs) developed with NSW primary care stakeholders are acceptable, appropriate and meaningful in the general practice context.

PREMs ask patients to provide feedback about the healthcare services they have received and help services identify what they are doing well and areas they need to focus on to improve patient experience.

Primary care stakeholders implementing the NSW’s PRMs Program requested an experience measure that would meet their requirement for patient feedback toward their general practice accreditation.
Focus groups were held with interested PHNs, community and clinical councils, patients, GPs, general practices and their staff.

Four rounds of a modified Delphi process refined items of the patient journey through general practice and decided on the 20 agreed items for the PREM, which are provided in the survey for reference and demonstration purposes.

Participants can answer the 20 item questions if they wish, but these responses will not be used in any analyses for this survey, as the purpose is for participants to rate the acceptability and appropriateness of the measures. Responses will be anonymous and feedback will be utilised to inform the final PREM questions.

The survey is open until 10 January.

Online PBS Authorities survey
PBS-subsidised medicines can be critical to patient care, and Services Australia aims to ensure accurate information is available. The Online PBS Authorities system allows approved prescribers to request and receive either an immediate assessment in real time, or a delayed assessment.

Services Australia is asking GPs to complete the Online PBS Authorities survey by 31 January. Any queries can be sent to authorities.comms.change@servicesaustralia.gov.au
